Mental health in pregnancy

Hi everyone,
Is it just me, or does anyone else’s mental health seem to plummet through pregnancy?

my anxiety has gone through the roof lately. I’ve seen a GP and are now on AD’s

im not even sure what im anxious about, it just seems in general- from the smallest things etc. I can go from feeling alright to feelings of anxiety and irrational thinking/ stressing about scenarios in my head that haven’t even happened, but i only ever seem to get this stressed out whilst pregnant. Just wondering if it’s the same for anyone else? 💐

Yes, I was the same during both my pregnancies, very heightened anxiety and debilitating depression with my first. As hard as it is, parenting has only been uphill for me since that. I could barely leave the house with my first, traffic lights became confusing and over stimulating, I worried I would get the colours wrong, the hormones were really going above and beyond.

Feeling the same thing with this pregnancy. My first ended in a MC at the end of the first trimester. Now in my second trimester with my second pregnancy and all is going well but I still have anxiety. It’s just a constant feeling something will go wrong.

@TropicalRain glad it’s not just me. When I was pregnant with my first DC I had crippling anxiety which I must admit did get better after birth, but now I’m in my 3rd trimester with 2nd DC and have really struggled with anxiety again. I just don’t think my body / hormones agrees with pregnancy:(

@KatieJ345 im so sorry to hear about your previous loss💐 it’s honestly so crap feeling so anxious all the time, I hope you start to feel better soon:(

Yes, me!

When I tried to speak to the midwife about it though in my booking appt she told me it doesn't really count as I've got a good reason to be anxious (ie recent miscarriage) which was helpful (!)

Are you finding the ADs help? How long have you got left to go?

Really hope it eases up for you soon, and if not then hopefully knowing it got better for you last time post-birth gives some light at the end of the tunnel 🤞 sending love and strength! 💐

Yes I totally get that. I have always been an anxious person but since being pregnant a second time after an mmc, it's been really hard. My midwife referred to their mental health team and I am waiting to start CBT but as the waiting list is quite long, I am not sure when that will happen. I just imagine all the worst case scenarios constantly. I have my 20 week scan this week and have been feeling very very nervous about it for a few weeks convinced they will find sth untoward. You're not alone...

Sorry to hear that OP! I am on anti anxiety meds (have been for 7/8 years) and am now 14 weeks and the first few weeks my anxiety was horrendous. Usually the meds keep it fully under control but the pregnancy seemed to "override" them somehow 😓glad to say it has eased up now though, and really hope the same happens for you. ADs can take a little time to kick in so hang in there 💐
