Mucus plug and gush but neg fluid test??

TLDR: convinced waters leaked slightly and saw mucus plug, neg strip test and sent home. Am I silly for wanting to trust my gut??

I'm currently 40+4 and felt a gush and soaked through my undies and leggings earlier this evening. Definitely not wee as I have not been drinking a lot so when a bit of wee does leak, it smells like urine and this liquid did not smell like that. When I wiped, I had what looked like my mucus plug on the tissue. I googled and it looked the same as others. An hour later a midwife visited and advised I go in for a test. Went in, laid down for 30 minutes and then a speculum test was done where it showed negative for amniotic fluid and I was told I had discharge and sent home disappointed.

I am however not convinced. I have read other stories of this happening to women where it was their hind waters and the babys head had stopped any further leaking. I'm seeing my actual midwife tomorrow (technically today as its currently 1:44am) and so I will be mentioning this. This is my first baby and I'm really worried about there being an infection. Can someone please just tell me if I'm being stupid by worrying and wanting to trust my gut? I know my body and I'm just not convinced this wasn't my hind waters.

When my waters broke with my son I wasn't believed as the test was negative and I was no longer leaking. 24 hours later they tried to send me home but I got angry and demanded they scan or smell my sister's car where it happened as it did not smell of wee. Anyway they scanned and 80% of waters were gone so they had to induce. This strips can be rubbish x

It may well have been a large amount of discharge. My hind waters went with my first which was a small trickle but they got me to cough when lying down and it got more to come out. Also showed on test, and more continued to trickle out over the next 24hours. My second I was convinced I’d had the same again but test was negative, turns out it was a large amount of discharge which is really common towards the end. When I eventually lost my mucus plug there was no doubt about it, it was a large jelly like blob streaked with blood
