Growth scan - belly measuring larger

Hi, I’m 36 weeks and had my third growth scan last week. Baby is averaging at 5lb 2oz at 35+2 and is between the tenth and 20th centile.

I was looking at the screen when the head and femur was measured and they were slightly behind, but her belly was measuring ahead.

I pointed this out and asked why and the sonographer wasn’t concerned, she said when they all get put together the measurements even out.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this at a growth scan?

Hi @GreenAventurine

At all three of my growth scans my daughter was measuring ahead in someway e.g. femur, stomach etc.

I specifically remember having a growth scan 2 days before I went in for induction at 38+5 and DD tummy was measuring at 42 weeks (4+ weeks ahead). Sonographer and midwives were not at all concerned. She was born 5 days later and weighed 8lb 11oz and did indeed have a little tummy on her, everything in proportion though. As long as midwives etc aren’t concerned I really wouldn’t worry. I hope this helps a bit! 😊

Hi thank you it does help!
I think tummy was measuring two weeks ahead but legs and head smaller than gestation.
Baby is below average in weight, but not worryingly so, so I suppose her belly is helping her bulk up a little lol.

Not to drip feed but I do have ‘gestational diabetes’ and that can cause a larger tummy in babies apparently. Well, I’ve been diagnosed with it, it’s diet controlled and my blood sugars are always in correct range so consultant thinks it’s my liver issues that they picked up on gd test and that I don’t actually have it.

My son had a massive abdominal circumference on all his growth scans. He just had a little round belly when born too, wasn't a sign of anything wrong xx
