Is it ok to buy second hand crib?

We've been looking at the Cozee bedside crib from Tutti Bambini but I've seen it on Facebook Marketplace for a fraction of the price but just wondering if its safe/ok to buy a crib second hand? I've read things that say its like a car seat and you don't know how its been looked after in the past or could have parts missing etc. The seller has provided lots of pictures and condition is used-like new. We'd definitely get a new mattress for it.

Thoughts?

It’s fine

Torganer · 24/10/2023 09:16

It’s fine. To be encouraged, saves on unnecessary waste.

Ttcmumma · 24/10/2023 09:17

Yeah as long as you put a new mattress and give it a good clean it's fine

TakeMe2Insanity · 24/10/2023 09:18

Yes. The main thing is you need a brand new mattress.

SleepingStandingUp · 24/10/2023 09:19

Yup, the important thing is the mattress, which you know.

Let's face it, you're gonna put it up before the day you bring baby home so you have chance to check it out and make sure it's stable etc. Check there's no stains and all the parts are included.

Both our bedside crib and cot bed were second hand and had been used for at least 2 babies before ours, and have been put away in storage for potential future use. We got new mattresses and mattress protectors for them and they were perfect.
So long as you have a good firm new mattress on it then it’s a great way to save money and waste. We used secondhand everything except cot mattress and car seat and saved a ton!

Of course. Everything second hand fine apart from car seat unless it’s coming from someone you trust 100%

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to view it later on and will probably buy it. RRP is £195 and she's selling it for £60! We'll definitely get new mattress and protector. Really chuffed with myself for finding a bargain!

I'm not due till February so we'll just have to keep it in their room for the time being!

As long as it is safe and clean condition, then yes.

Misspotterscat · 24/10/2023 12:41

We have this passed on from a friend. You can buy replacement mattresses which are the same as the original from the tutti bambini website - they’re around £30. That’s what we’ve done so we know it fits properly 😊

Tryingtohelp12 · 24/10/2023 12:45

Definitely ok. My cot has been used by 10 different babies in the past 6 years (4 families). It’s mad to buy stuff brand new for the sake of it.

kalokagathos · 24/10/2023 12:45

I had everything second hand. My child didn't notice, no one noticed anything! Also, it's good for the environment to buy second hand.

sarahc336 · 24/10/2023 12:54

You must buy a new mattress though but other than that yes fine

ActDottie · 24/10/2023 13:04

It’s fine, we looked at a second hand stuff but the only reason we opted for new was because the people selling the stuff never got back to me!
