Morning
I know I’m going to get a lot of ‘your not ill your pregnant’ comments…..
but I have to go out tonight for my mums 50th birthday celebrations to a local bar. It’s me, my mum, and all her friends.
the bar gets really crowded and is really loud with DJ’s etc.
given the fact I’m 38 weeks pregnant I wont be staying late, but my friend said to me is it safe to be going to a bar so late in my pregnancy with people knocking into me etc. I didn’t really think about it until she said and now I’m a bit worried!! I can’t back out now as it’s such a big birthday for my mum but just feeling a bit nervous!! …. Anyone think it’s too unsafe to go?

Go, but can you sit at the bar at the side? Your mum will understand

It’s completely safe, pregnant women and their babies survive car crashes - nothing will happen to either of you from someone bumping into you. But it will be loud and not much fun probably!

I’d stay for two drinks and then make a move. You won’t be able to go to a bar with a newborn after all, might as well enjoy the freedom for now. :)

No I think it's fine people will give you a wide birth and im sure someone will get you a seat. I can't see how it would be dangerous tbh no different than getting on packed public transport

Yeah it’s really weird there are some tables in there but they’re far and few and it’s not a bar that you can actually sit at lol. I’m hoping that because I’m going fairly early half 6 ish and her friends are arriving at 7, that I’ll manage to find a seat of some sort!

I think your friend is being a bit silly, to be honest! I'd go without giving it a second thought, it's certainly not an unsafe activity (even with a crowd).

Awwww that’s so true ladies I didn’t even think of it like that… probably the last time I’ll be doing something like this!!! definitely will not be much fun with the music etc lol, given the fact I’ve been up since 4am too I’ll definitely be needing my bed by 7pm lol!!! ….

I can understand not feeling up to this sort of thing at 38 weeks but it's not going to be dangerous.

MaggieFS · 20/10/2023 06:27

Just do what you're already planning - go, go early, leave early. And it will be fine.

platypuspart · 20/10/2023 06:33

What do you think will happen?! You'll be fine! Enjoy! Make the most of being able to go out without arranging baby sitters. I went to a gig at 4 days before I went into labour with my first. I was at the front, dancing away! It never occurred to me not to go 🤷‍♀️

To be honest I'd be more concerned about catching an airborne virus in a crowded place, assuming you are in the UK then COVID prevalence is very high. You wouldn't want that in your final weeks of pregnancy/when giving birth as it can infect your baby through the placenta (or directly from you breathing on baby once he's born). So if there are outdoor areas I'd prioritise hanging out in those.

WalnutBlue · 20/10/2023 07:05

I wouldn't go personally because there is not that much seating for one - what if you feel faint or sick.
Another person just raised a good point, highly likely to catch a virus, now this may not be harmful to the baby but do you really want to be going through labour puking or with a stinking cold. 😂
On a serious note covid can be slightly risky in the third trimester, I would probably stay on the safe side and give it a miss.

Juicyjuicymango · 20/10/2023 07:21

Of course you can go - I wouldn't have wanted to but that's a separate issue!

Anonymouslyconercned · 20/10/2023 07:33

thanks ladies - tbh I’ve just had covid and caught that from sitting at home doing nothing! …
