6 weeks pregnant, empty sac but late ovulation! Help!

Hi,

I recently found out I am pregnant. My last period was 7 September, making me 6 weeks 1 day. However, I got the solid smiley ovulation test on day 19 of my 27/28 day cycle so I ovulate later than most.

I have had some very light bleeding, nothing too concerning but went for an early scan today. They could only see an empty sac, no yolk or anything else. I had bloods done and am going back Saturday for more bloods to see if my levels are rising.

Of course I came away worrying, but thinking about it, surely if I ovulated late and conceived around day 19, although it’s classed as 6 weeks from my last period, I’m not as far on as expected (just over 3 weeks since conception)?

I’ve tried looking online but can’t find anything especially as everything goes from your last period, and most say you can see more than an empty sac by 6 weeks which is worrying.

Has anyone had a similar experience or any success stories for me please? I’m worried they could only see an empty sac.

Thank you.

You are probably just very early - even a couple of days would make a difference! Try not to worry and overthink it (easier said than done I know). I’m sure you’ll see a lovely heartbeat next time x

@KMM87 thank you so much. I still feel pregnant, sore boobs etc so hopefully it’s still really early. I’m hoping that I’m technically only 5 weeks because of the late ovulation and they push my due date back. It’s such early days though and like you say even a few days can make a difference. Hopefully my levels rise on Saturday and we see progress at the next scan! Thanks again :)

I had my last period start on 5 September so I'm a couple days ahead of you. My EPU won't scan me until next week (just over 7 weeks then) They wanted to make sure it would be enough time to see something. I ovulate late too. I think you just got scanned a bit too early! 🤞

Avocado098 · 19/10/2023 14:11

@Sealover123 ah this really puts my mind at ease. Thank you. And it’s nice we’re in the same boat. Do you know what day ish you ovulate? Keep me updated with everything! Xx

Usually day 18 for me. I hope you get promising results on Saturday! My scan isn't until the 25th and time is going so slowly...

KMM87 · 19/10/2023 14:52

Honestly those couple of days make such a difference at this stage. ’m sure when you go back for your bloods on Saturday everything will be fine.

I will be 5 weeks tomorrow too 🤗 my due date is 21 June.

I’m going to book an early scan for 7-8 weeks. These early days drag so much.

Avocado098 · 19/10/2023 14:55

@KMM87 ah so we’re around the same time! You’ll have to keep me updated. It’s a rollercoaster to say the least isn’t it!!! My head is gone haha. Thank you for reassuring me, I’ll let you know how Saturday goes.

Based on our ovulation days I'm guessing you're going to be a few days ahead of me 😃
Is this your first pregnancy? I have an 8 yr old so it feels like I'm starting over!

TheBirdintheCave · 19/10/2023 15:11

Ok so you're actually about 5+1 today (adding a day for ovulation post LH surge). In general if you just minus 14 days from your ovulation date you can use that as your pretend period start date. It's what I always have to do as I also ovulate later than average. Much easier to just tell a white lie and get an accurate picture of dates than end up worrying.

Avocado098 · 19/10/2023 15:38

@KMM87 aw how exciting! I bet your 8 yo is over the moon, it’s a lovely age gap. Yes it’s my first pregnancy so I have no idea what’s going on ha! The ups and the downs have been wild so far! How are you feeling?

@TheBirdintheCave honestly thank you so much. I thought this was the case - it didn’t cross my mind until I came home from the hospital but it makes total sense. It’s really put my mind at ease - because I feel pregnant in every other sense so everything online saying it’s unusual and mention

@TheBirdintheCave sorry I accidentally clicked post! Everything mentioning miscarriage is doing nothing but giving me anxiety. But ovulating later clearly means we’re not as far on as we thought. Are you currently pregnant? Hope you’re doing ok.

@Avocado098 Yep 10 weeks at the moment :) Hoping this one sticks! I had Covid at the start of this cycle which delayed my O by nearly two weeks so if I'd stuck with my original period date I'd be waaaaay out in terms of scans etc.

I hope everything turns out ok with your little one! It does sound like you're just too early.

KMM87 · 19/10/2023 21:55

@Avocado098 Ahhh first baby is so exciting!!
I’m not sure if he will be over the moon or full of fury 🤣🙈 I think I’m going to tell him after the 12 week scan - let’s hope it doesn’t ruin his Christmas haha.
I’m ok at the mo just very bloated and tired lol no other symptoms. How about you?

Avocado098 · 19/10/2023 22:02

@TheBirdintheCave wow that’s crazy! I feel like I’m in the exact same boat. I’ll mention to the doctor on Saturday. Thanks so so much! I’ll keep you updated. Hope all goes well for you too - congratulations!

@KMM87 aww hahah that will be cute - you’ll have to think of a cute way to tell him :) sure he’ll be the best brother. I’m the same, I’m having some cramps too and my boobs are soo sore xx

Hello,
I am 6w1day today, on 16/10 I had a early scan as I didn't know how far along I was or when I ovulated, I bought the clear blue digital and it said 2-3 weeks when I first tested on 5th October so just guessed my dates i came up with 6-7 weeks from my last period - had a early scan due to cramping and lower back pain and was dated at 5 weeks 4 days, on my scan picture you can clearly see fetal pole and the sack and sonographer confirmed pregnancy was in the right place, (i was worried ectopic with pains i was getting) but my pains are so uncomfortable now (worse than last week) that I'm uncomfortable sleeping and up most the night, also finding driving uncomfortable too. I've obviously done the whole mumsnet and google thing and scared myself stupid! Does anyone else have bloating and gassy pains to the extent they cant sleep?! I'm wondering is this normal, is anyone else getting these symptoms and what are people doing to relieve it? I've had the odd MS but not consistent like my last pregnancy (i know all pregnancy's are different but I just don't feel right at the moment. I didn't experience anything like this in my last pregnancy, I didn't even know i was pregnant at this point in my last one)

Avocado098 · 27/10/2023 12:15

Just an update - I was right about the dates. Scan yesterday showed yolk, sac and fetal pole and I’m just over 6 weeks. I guess this must happen to a lot of people who ovulate late in their cycle.

thanks for the advice all!

@Reddog14 i hope you’re getting on ok. How are you feeling? & sorry what is MS? I have been struggling to sleep, been really bloated, sickly (but no vomiting) and generally feeling hungover constantly! Let me know how you are x
