Hi all, anyone have any experience of being in hospital with ectopic symptoms - any idea what they’ll do to test? Or what I should expect? 😬😰 I phoned the out of hours doctor tonight with mild ache in one shoulder and they’re sending an ambulance… Thanks

How many weeks pregnant are you? They will probably do a transvaginal scan and if they've tested your hcg levels previously they will take blood again to see if it has increased. Hope everything is ok! 🙏🏻

I’m 5w+6days. Thank you. Never been in an ambulance before - seems like a massive over reaction as pain isn’t severe, but equally am terrified… am away from home at the moment on my own 😬😭🤦‍♀️ Thanks, fingers crossed it’s not.

I needed emergency surgery and was in excruciating pain, but I was almost 8 weeks. If it is ectopic, luckily it sounds it'll be caught early for you and they will go through options with you. Poor thing being on your own 😞 I hope it's not and all will be fine for you!

They'll likely take bloods and then repeat as the results can indicate possible internal bleeding. Good luck OP.

I went last year with shoulder pain but I'd been diagnosed with an ectopic the day before at EPU. I was 7+2 when diagnosed. We got an uber to hospital. 111 alerted the hospital that I would be arriving.

I got there around 10:30pm and was triaged. I saw gynaecology at midnight and was admitted and told nil by mouth and had a cannula fitted and bloods taken. I had a scan around 1pm the next day. They found internal bleeding and I was in theatre within the hour. I was 7+4 at that point.

I think they will need to take bloods for you, possibly a urine test for pregnancy (EPU did that for me before my first scan which diagnosed the ectopic) and they will need to do a trans vaginal scan to see if they can locate the pregnancy.

If it is ectopic, try not to worry too much. It's very treatable and you can still conceive with one tube (I've conceived twice since). I hope all goes well for you.
