Is it ok to get footless sleepsuits for newborns if I pop socks on them during the day.

Yes it's fine but baby socks don't stay on all that well. Get some 'sock ons' to put over the top to stop them falling off.
It is easier putting them in actual babygrows unless it's summer time and it's going to be warm.

Although I did the same as you are suggesting with my first baby as she was so long that she would outgrow a babygrow because of her long legs but the next size up would be ridiculously big.

Im sure it’s fine but just to let you know the socks fall off non stop lol I opted for footed second time around as a result

If the baby is measuring as having long legs could I just put them straight into 0-3 months size all in ones? I'm due in winter so don't want cold bare feet if socks fall off. If i end up needing footless and socks the sockons linkooks genius. thank you @Nursemumma92

It's fine, I used to put my baby in footless ones in his carrier (stops the feet of the onesie pulling up) and then just put socks over his feet

You can dress your baby however you like - if they're cold, they'll tell you! I'm completely against footless babygrows though, for the above reasons. In winter I dress babies in a footed sleepsuit and then chuck leggings and a jumper over that so they're super cosy.

I'm curious as to why you're asking though. Has someone told you you can't?

Tights under footless onsie work better then socks

PercytheParkKeepershedgehog · 16/10/2023 17:58

I preferred footless onsies because they fit my long tall babies better and for a longer period of time + I used a carrier a lot.
Some footless onsies have folder over feet/mittens. They are excellent in my experience because they have longer arms and legs so fit longer + at least in the bigger you can fold over the feet over hands to keep babies extremities a bit warmer.
Baby socks are definitely hit and miss though. Some stay on and some don’t and it’s hard to tell in advance which will work. Knitted or fleece booties can work well too.

I've never had the sock falling off problem, I get the folded top pjs from H&M. When they're toddlers and want to do it themselves I swap to the straight ones and they slide down a bit

Thanks everyone. I'm clueless so asking as much as I can before they arrive 🤣

And tights under trousers so you aren't always searching for lost socks that have fallen off!

skkyelark · 17/10/2023 14:02

Socks were a complete disaster on both of mine when tiny, but you may have more luck. I did the tights under everything trick when they were a bit older though, especially with DD2, who could defeat any sock, bootie, or pram shoe.

If they're long and thin, you get to know which brands fit a bit slimmer. And which styles – no envelope neck or v-neck sleepsuits for DD2, as if they were long enough, they fell off her shoulders. Round neck only.
