Employer keeping my MatB1 form

Is this right? Usually I've just given my previous employers copies of my MatB1 Form, and actually one employer never even requested it - just took my formal notice as enough for them to go by.

Current Employer wants the original, fair enough I can understand that, so have given it to them. But they said they then keep it and won't return it?

Just doesn't seem right? DH's Employer has also requested it for his Paternity Leave.

Can anyone advise me here please?

We had this. We pointed it out to DHs employers in an email with my HR cc’d that the two of them would have to fight it out as to who gets the original. DHs employer backed down…

Doesn’t sound right to me. I emailed a copy to my line manager and my husband did the same. I still have the original.

Why don't you take a copy if you want one then give them the original? Is there a reason you want to keep the original? I think it must vary from place to place but I don't think it's unusual for them to want to keep the original

It's normal I think, my employer did the same, kept the original. Dh's employer got a scanned copy. (They're a tech company and never use actual paper for anything anyway so no complaints from them).

Kalodin · 16/10/2023 09:04

Just if they both want to see the original, what am I meant to do?

Do I just do what PP said upthread and make them battle it out?

I've never not kept the original before, seems odd!

Yes this is normal, husband's company accepted a scanned copy. Happened with both pregnancies with different employers.

Thank you all for reassuring me. Will confirm with DH's workplace a scanned copy is sufficient first.

They should only be taking copies of it.

dementedpixie · 16/10/2023 21:46

Strictly speaking your dhs employer doesn't need to see the MatB1 form.

PickledScrump · 16/10/2023 22:38

You’re meant to take copies of it and give the original to your employer, which they keep. Never known an employer not to keep it tbh. Midwives usually tell you to make sure you take copies before handing to your employer.
