6 weeks but measuring 5… worried

Hello. I went for a transvaginal ultrasound on Saturday where I would be 6 weeks but only a sac and maybe the start of a yolk was seen. Do I expect the worst?

I went for a scan when I was 6w 5d, I only measured 6w. My next scan at 12 weeks, I was measuring about 3 days behind. But by 16 weeks I had caught up. Unless you specifically know the day you ovulated it's difficult to be accurate in those early days.

What did you see when you measured 6w? Such a worrying time isn’t it

I measured about 5+6 at 6+2 and at the NHS 12+2 scan I measured 13 weeks! 5 weeks you wouldn't really see anything so I wouldn't worry just yet. So easy for dates to be all over the place

Do you know for sure the day you ovulated? I went for an early scan at 6+2 according to my last period but ovulated on CD17 so only measured 5+6. It’s also easy for them to be a few mm out as everything is so tiny.

I was lucky and saw everything, yolk sac, baby and heartbeat but it was transvaginal and I've heard most ladies don't see that much that early!

Yes I was tracking ovulation so I am sure my dates are correct. The only thing I’m holding onto is that baby bean is a slow grower!

Fingers crossed for you OP. Did they offer to rescan you in a couple of weeks?

They’re going to refer me to EPU for bloods and go from there, this is the worst waiting game ever

That early on it's really normal for measurements to be out and it's so so tiny and being 1mm off can make a big difference in dates.

In all my pregnancies my early scans have put me earlier than I knew I was then by 12 weeks it's caught up

I had this with my baby and I was pretty sure of my dates too. I think they could only see the sac at 5+6 but everything was fine and my dates got pushed back a week at my 12 week scan. She even came 2 weeks after her new DD and is a very healthy 7.5 month old now. Fingers crossed for you.

As one of the PPs said, it's so hard to get accurate measurements at that stage as everything is so tiny! I went for a scan expecting to see 7+5 but got told I was at 6+6. Just had my 12 week scan only to find everything has caught back up to the dates I initially expected. Crossing fingers for you, I know it's such a stressful time!

Hope you're okay, gosh it's SO stressful right?!

One Thursday I went thinking id be 5+6 (saw sons HB then so risked it) but was 5+2 no HB.

Went back the Thursday after and was expecting to be 6+2 to match up with the prev scan but was 6+1 (panic set in!) and saw HB

Went back 1.5 weeks later (a Sunday, due to pain) and was expecting to be 7+4 based on prev scan. Only I was 8+1 and baby had caught up with my dates!

They just explained when it's so small, it's really hard to measure hence my NHS wait until 12 weeks!

I didn't realise how common it was until I posted and asked the same question a couple of weeks ago!!

@Boymamaxx so so stressful. I can’t tell whether I’m feeling sick through morning sickness or because I’m so anxious! Hearing positive stories is definitely helping though. Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy 🥰

The 2 week wait between scans feels like torture! ovulated on CD 20 (confirmed with BBT/LH strips) and positive test CD 34, 2 days after period due. Booked an early scan for 5+6 due to previous ectopic before going away. Was surprised when they said they could see yolk, gestational sac and foetal pole, was just expecting a sac! However they have said the fetal pole is measuring 4+6 at 1.46mm CRL. Today my clear blue went from 2-3 to 3+. So confused how an embryo that small would even show and no way this adds with my dates. Just a waiting game :( have had several miscarriages waiting for the clinic. I wish we could click our fingers and a baby would be with us x I hope everything works out for you ❤️❤️ xxx

I have just got back from another scan. I now have a yolk sac along with embryo measuring 3.2mm CRL. I’m meant to be 8 weeks exactly today but dating at 6 weeks exactly which doesn’t make sense as my 28 day periods are regular as clockwork and I tracked ovulation, ovulating on day 16. As you’ve said, dates don’t add up but the sonographers aren’t concerned in the slightest. They said there can be so many irregularities, try not to worry yourself I’m sure everything will work out x

@kayleeeeexo and @LW678 how are you both getting on? I had an early scan at 6w4d and saw everything incl heartbeat yet CRL only measured 1.8mm!

Fingers crossed everything works out well for you. My gut was right, baby died not long after the last scan. Currently going through a missed miscarriage, I knew the dates were too far out

i had a follow up EPU scan and they measured the baby as 7mm just under 7 weeks which matched my dates, both sacs looking right and a heart beat seen. EPU think the private one must’ve been a bit of a crap scanner lol. Now 8+4 waiting for 12 week one. Xxx

I was measuring a week and 3 days behind I have a follow up on the 23rd and I’m so scared and anxious to even look at that screen 😫
