2+ Sugar in Urine / 33 weeks

Hi all

I went into the Triage yesterday for something unrelated and they took a urine sample. They found ++ sugar and asked if I had anything sugary to drink

It was evening and by that time I had a glass of squash just before I went in with my dinner (rice) and was having fruit throughout the day

I had my GTT at 27 weeks which was normal. Since then no sugar found until yesterday. They took a blood sample but my worry is, if there's sugar in my urine due to what I drank/ate right before, then surely the bloods taken the same night will also come back with an inaccurate result because wouldn't they show the same thing? Just a bit worried about developing GD this late now :(

I would have thought the result would be more accurate if they asked me to come back the next day in the morning rather than take bloods right after i'd been drinking a sugary drink/fruit/carbs.. i forgot to ask this yesterday to be honest as I wasn't expecting them to say "it's possible you could be developing GD now" so just quickly said yes to providing a blood sample

I understand your worry, but it’s important they test and spot GD if it’s there. The targets have got stricter in recent years - all for the good of baby and their mum.

There’s never a good time to develop GD, but in the last few weeks of pregnancy rather than near the beginning is better, I’d say. Don’t panic - even if you do have GD, you won’t be alone and they’ll have a tried and tested method of dealing with things. You’ll be ok xx

Thank you @BreatheAndFocus for your reply. Just waiting on results back from that day :) you are right, it is probably better to develop it in the last few weeks than earlier on. Thank you for the positivity x
