Hi ladies
if I’ve been exposed to someone with chickenpox do I need to worry? I’ve tried to call my community midwives their phones are on divert to triage and I’ve waited on the phone for over 35 minutes and no one is answering.
have also tried the GP and the receptionists said they couldn’t help but will send a message and to the Dr to see what needs to be done…
I do remember having chickenpox when I was much younger but just wondering if there’s anything I need to do or worry about?
rhank you

If you've had it before then you're probably immune so there shouldn't be an issue in your pregnancy

PickledScrump · 10/10/2023 16:40

It’s only a concern if you haven’t had it as a child. As you have you’ll be fine as you have the antibodies already

Usually your fine if you’ve been exposed previously, if your unsure if you did have it as a child then they can usually do a test on one of the samples they took at your booking appointment (if your hospital lab stores them) and that will indicate if you already have immunity to chickenpox, if not they would perhaps look to issue you with medication, just keep trying to ring triage again to discuss with them

Also agree that it is an issue if you haven't had it before.

DS got it a week before I was due which was a problem because I hadn't had it.

You might want to have a blood test to check for antibodies to put your mind at rest.

sorry that should say “if you’ve had preciously

Thanks so much ladies. I do remember having it as a child but managed to get through to triage who advised that they’ll test my bloods for immunity like previous poster said! Hopefully everything will be okay… they said you can get it again depending on level of immunity so to keep an eye out for any spots!

I've been pregnant both times around my two sons who have had chickenpox. All was fine (I've had it as a child) x

Good, glad you managed to discuss with them and they’re testing sample so will have that reassurance
