Hi all,
Has anyone had a first baby via ivf at 40? Reason for ivf was unexplained infertility, ivf round 1 was successful and had baby at 34 weeks who is now happy and healthy 8 months. But I want a second and not sure how long to leave it? Do I want until I am recovered 1 year. Do I go frozen embryo or natural (although husband diet is worse than ever). Anyone been in similar situation? Thanks xx

Do you have any embryos remaining from your previous egg retrieval(s)? The inter-pregnancy interval is recommended to be at least 6 months if you had a vaginal delivery but ideally over 12 months and 18 months id you had a CS. If you need another IVF round you should do that asap, freeze the embryos and then transfer at a point where the fertility doctor and or obstetrician recommends its fine to proceed. The other thing to consider is whether you're breastfeeding. Some fertility specialists will insist on you stopping prior to beginning fertility treatment.

Hiya thanks for responding
Yes we have eggs from previous retrieval and also have stopped breastfeeding at 5 months.

I would wait until your baby is 12 months before going through another pregnancy, purely because of the strain on your body (I think pregnancies in quick succession also have worse outcomes?).

If you already have the embryos then I would just wait until that point to transfer. You can try naturally alongside from then on (missing out the transfer month to avoid the albeit slim possibility of twins!).

The only difference is if you plan to do further egg retrievals to give you a better chance of further pregnancies, but if you have embryos I would try to use them first.

Thanks so much

Really appreciate the advice
