Fleas after a baby shower ??

hello … I had a baby shower last weekend and my friend got me loads of little bits for the baby which I put in her nursery with the intention to wash it all this week when I start my maternity leave.
this friend called me today so say she was really upset as shes got a flea infestation at home and has had to treat the house….
now I’m very aware that my way or thinking is irrational, I am blaming it on the pregnancy hormones at the min as nothing is ever clean enough for me!
but my concern is if she has had a flea infestation and has had the baby bits sitting in her house will they have flea eggs on them in which case my house will now be flea infested?….
I’m sure I’ll get all the comments about over thibking and mental health but quite frankly, just don’t want fleas when I’m due to pop any second lol

Were they wrapped? Throw them in the dryer either way. Kills everything.

Unlikely and do you have pets? If you don't have pets the fleas have nothing to survive off of. They bite humans but they survive off of animals. The cycle will be dead before you know it without pets but the likelihood of them even getting onto the clothes, surviving and making it into your home are so so slim

If you don't have a dryer, wrap items in a bag and freeze for 2 days. This will kill any fleas, eggs, or larvae.

I think you'll be fine, but it is sensible to be cautious.

Thank you ladies didn’t think about the dryer will put it all in there asap… just worried about any eggs that might have dropped in the room or rest of the house but hopefully that’s just me overthinking and won’t really happen lol!

Very very very unlikely. It is mostly the fleas that travel not the eggs. The eggs tend to get laid in carpets and soft furnishings. You should be absolutely fine. ❤️❤️

Clicked on this thread because last week I opened a package from an online company and a few minutes later I saw some tiny little ticks. Panic stations. Put flea drops on cat and sprayed with repellant the room where I’d seen them. Not seen one since. Could they have come from the clothes in the packaging? Cat has never had ticks or fleas and I’ve been through the fur with a flea comb. Interesting x

The advice you've had is good, you can also wash everything in the washing machine.

If anything has dropped off onto the floor, firstly that's very unlikely, secondly it will just die as there's nothing for it to live on. Cat and dog fleas will bite humans but they can't live on us. They only live on animals.

You could hoover the floor where they had been placed just to make sure but honestly I wouldn't worry.

@User0000009 oh wow that’s a worry lol! I’ve seen things like that happen online but always assumed people were making it up!!! How scary.

my friend did have a flea infestation as the cats and dog were badly infested unfortunately… I’ll just need to keep a close eye on things. I hoover daily anyway in my nesting mode lol so fingers crossed all is ok! Last thing I need is to be fumigating the house with a newborn!

Exactly! Keep an eye but fingers crossed it’ll be fine. I still haven’t seen any more x
