Pregnancy growth chart insights?

Im just looking for more experiences and insight regarding growth percentile charts. My growth chart last two times has been following the 90th percentile. (I was being checked for amniotic fluid being on the higher side of normal now that’s seems ok)- but on this recent scan it revealed baby was measuring:
32 weeks, 4 pound 10 following 90th percentile.
34 weeks, 4 pound 15 following 50th percentile.
which is only 5 ounces gained in 2 weeks going from the 90th percentile to 50th percentile, they checked me over and baby and said everything else looks fine and to rescan in 2 weeks.

the above I’m just wondering what this could mean? Could it be a discrepancy in scan measurement or what, anyone experienced this? And also for example I go at 36 weeks scan and they say
baby has either gained just alittle again or lost for example will there be possibility they schedule my c section for earlier?

Scans are very rough guides, and babies’ growth isn’t linear. It’s an indication that growth might be slowing down, but things might also be totally on track.

I had one C section brought forwards in part because of slowing growth. But that was after I’d already had one very small baby, suggesting that that was a possibility again. Although baby no2 was actually a more average weight for her gestational age, suggesting the worrying scans had been wrong!

@Labradoodlie ah ok thank you for your experience and yeah yours seems to be wrong then?
If everything else looked ok on scan what could that be the reason for slowing growth? I am aware too that they can be wrong as the doctor who looked over my scan said everything else ok so it maybe either the time before or this measurement could have been wrong and we will rescan in two weeks. I’m just nervous what will happen I’m likely to face an earlier c section if baby is now slow growing?

I think slow growth is usually down to the placenta not working so well, so baby might not be getting everything they need. In my case it was that + them being in a weird position so they didn’t have the space to grow.

Mine were born at 37 and 38 weeks, both at around 6lbs. So slightly small and early but no one was worried after they arrived . Now at 4years and 6months, they’re both thriving! Good luck!

@Labradoodlie how did you know the placenta wasn’t working as good? Did you find that from a scan? When they checked me they checked everything else on that scan and it said ok like placenta etc would that be picked upon? Just awaiting now next week for this other scan

Did you have your scan with the same person each time? I found on a couple of scans that there was a big difference between two sonographers

@Redpanda21 that is what is odd really l. The last two times have been done at the hospital with midwives etc, last time there was the person doing the scan and a midwife too they are there for just baby scans. But this 34 week scan they couldn’t fit me in so sent me to another hospital for a general scan with a sonographer (not a hospital that deals with babies it was just a general ultrasound, I then had to go to the other hospital for them to interpret it 🤷🏻‍♀️

That sounds like the issue to me. Midwife sonographers do about 10+ scans normally Doppler or growth scans a day. A normal sonographer who might just do 12 and 20 week scans aren’t as fine tuned as a midwife sonographer, from what I’ve experienced

In fact my midwife sonographer couldn’t believe I had been sent elsewhere for a growth scan following a tummy tape reading! Was really peeved off!
