Hey, just in case this brings some peace of mind to anyone.

I posted on here loads over the last few days asking about heavy bleeding at 6 weeks pregnant and I was convinced that I was having another miscarriage after my missed miscarriage in July.

The EPU wouldn’t scan me as I had been scanned a few days prior, so I booked a scan at Ultrasound Direct for yesterday.

To add detail this is what had been happening:

  • Wednesday: see heartbeat and baby measuring a couple of days behind which was fine. Prescribed progesterone as I had been spotting, bicornuate uterus confirmed.
  • Thursday: heavy dark red bleeding with slight cramps and this then tapered off to brown spotting with a small clot in the evening.
  • Friday: continued with light brown spotting which was almost nothing by the evening.
  • Saturday: in the morning I have a heavy red bleed with period style cramps. This then tapers off to brown spotting by the time of my scan.

I went in for my private scan convinced that this would just confirm my miscarriage, but I was thankfully wrong! The sonographer stated that baby looked perfect, is now measuring right on track and has a very strong heartbeat. The bleeding, despite my bicornuate uterus being very mild, is actually coming from the right horn of my uterus whereas the baby is in the left horn. It looks like my lining in the right horn is shedding and I have a bleeding spot there too. I’ve been told to expect more bleeding, bur not to worry unless it starts gushing as the bleed is not coming from the baby.

To say I’m shocked is an understatement, but me and my partner are so happy. We got to see where the placenta is forming and saw sound waves of the heartbeat. PLEASE always get any bleeding checked, but I thought I would share a positive outcome.

We know we have a long way to go, but this is much further than our mmc in July where we never heard a heartbeat! My mind was blown that all of this was picked up on an abdominal scan too as last time they could see nothing on my abdominal scans!

Amazing news, congratulations!

I also used ultrasound direct when epu refused to help me after some mild bleeding. Ive also had a mmc this year so panicked too. I find the scans at ultrasound direct are absolutely amazing quality! My 12 week scan and private scan were 4 days apart and the difference in what I could see of the baby is absolutely insane.

Going back to them for my 16 week gender scan as they're just great!

Goodluck for the rest of your pregnancy I hope it runs smoothly and stops giving you scares 😊

Your post has brought so much hope to me. I have a bicornuate uterus and found out I was pregnant last Wednesday … Friday came around and I started bleeding a lot, I went to the hospital and they confirmed the baby is on the left side with a heart beat at 6 weeks and one day, and the bleeding is coming from the right … it’s memorial day weekend so my doctors is closed till Tuesday, so I went back Sunday due to continue bleeding and painful cramps .. my HCG raised 13,000 and they said I need to follow up with my doctor, that was yesterday. I was prescribed progesterone suppositories and have been taking those at night, the bleeding has stopped, came back bright red, went dark brown and stopped again and done the cycle over and over, making me a nervous wreck. I was curious what the out come was for you .. and if you have any advice.
thank you!
