Endoscopy In pregnancy?

Hey guys, 19 weeks pregnant and have been told I need an upper endoscopy - can’t be put off. Just wondering if anyone had one in pregnancy? Is it safe to be even lightly sedated? Didn’t get to ask these questions to my own doctor yet as the appointment is just being schedule now for sometime in the next week.

Yes it is safe. I personally wouldn't be sedated pregnant. I've had one before and it was manageable with the throat spray

If it wasn't safe to be sedated in pregnancy they wouldn't offer it. I had a 4.5 hour general anaesthetic when I was 30 weeks pregnant and DC was fine. You obviously need the procedure. Doctors would avoid doing anything in pregnancy that wasn't absolutely necessary.

I was knocked out to repair my jaw when I was about 4 weeks pregnant with my son. I was attacked and had my jaw broken in two places, only found out I was pregnant when they did the test in hospital to check! It couldn't be put off, had to be done. All was fine, he's 5 now 😊

@SorryWorry i wasn’t informed whether sedation was an option I was just told I needed one next week so was asking here until I get to speak to them further regarding it as I would be very anxious so slight sedation if allowed might suit me better. @Ttcmumma oh god you poor thing 😭 how awful. That’s great to know tho! @addictedtotheflats oh maybe I could try the throat spray then if safer that just stops gag reflex is it?
