Cervical length check

Hi everyone

I've read up alot about cervical length checks after LLETZ and as I expected, when I went to my booking in appointment this week, the midwife mentioned i'd need a scan done.

What i didn't expect is the fact that this is going to be done alongside my 20 week scan. I've read alot online where people are having it done around 14-16 weeks and even having stitches put in at that point.

If you've had to have this done. What week were you? I'm just a bit nervous 20 weeks could be too late.

Thanks in advance x

I was 15 weeks when NHS finally saw me for a cervical scan.
I couldn't wait that long though so I went for a private cervical scan at 13 weeks before that and my cervix was already short and in need of intervention.
I managed my situation with progesterone though and that stabled it x

Thank you! The private places here only see you from 16 weeks so that seems to be the earliest i can be seen x

My hospital wouldn't scan me until 20 weeks. I went private in the end and good job I did because my cervix was only 13mm long and I needed an emergency stitch :(

Push for the scan! I only had 1 previous lletz.

It's not an option to go earlier where i live unfortunately. And i could do without the £100 to go private while saving for maternity leave but sounds like it's necessary. Thank you x

so depends on the length of the cervix as to whether they do the stitch. but they cant do anything from i think its 20 week so sometimes a stitch is just a precautionary measure

I believe it's weed 24 so would leave enough time but if it's very short i think it's best to know sooner, thanks for your help

@Lillybobs86 @mashm24 can I ask who you both went privately with for your cervix scan? I am 22+4 and its only just come to my attention that pre-term Labour is a risk because of a previous biopsy. I cannot call my midwife until Tuesday to ask about getting a scan to check my cervix so considering a private one but no idea where to go for that!

mashm24 · 30/12/2023 18:44

@94kj I used ultrasound direct - the lady was very knowledgeable! Get checked asap as the cut off for the stitch is 24 weeks if anything was to shorten. ❤️

Hey op. They waited for my 20 weeks scan too. But then I had to have scans every two weeks until I was 40weeks just to check. Everything was fine. DD needed encouragement to come out as I was induced at 40weeks due to reduced movements. Hope everything goes smoothly for you too 💕

Yes privately quite a few times during my pregnancy.
Quite a few places will offer but around £100 but it's worth it.
I would go privately asap so you know where you are with it as it was a very long wait nagging my midwife to be referred x

94kj · 30/12/2023 23:03

Thank you @Lillybobs86 I definitely will get this booked in ASAP! Definitely worth paying for

Hi @94kj , what was the outcome of this? I have not had a LLETZ but a previous biopsy and wondering if I need to do the same. I was under the impression it was only LLETZ that needed it. Thanks!

94kj · 21/04/2024 19:41

@llihl13 I did go privately and measurements were totally fine, I then even discussed my worries with the consultant when I next saw him about something else. Also discussed it with the colposcopy clinic where I had the biopsy done years before, they all said the same thing that only LLETZ needs further monitoring so really reassured me and I'm 38 weeks now had no problems x

Oh fab that’s great to hear. I will probably do the same just to be on the safe side as I had two biopsies. Thanks for getting back to me 🥰 x

Sara1988 · 21/04/2024 20:38

Those who had scans, did you see baby at same time?

94kj · 22/04/2024 06:09

@Sara1988 yes as it was private they quickly showed us baby and checked heartbeat through abdominal scan and then spent most of the time doing the internal scan to check the cervix

Sara1988 · 22/04/2024 07:04

@94kj mine is with nhs so wonder if it will be the same
