20 week - soft signs/markers on scan - worried sick

NC as I don't want this linked to my other pregnancy posts .

20 week scan looked fine but I have since had a call from the hospital re soft markers and have been referred for scan with specialist next Wednesday - a whole week away! I am worried sick!!!

Notes are:

  • 4 mm right renal pelvis noted
  • 5.7 mm thickening of the nuchal fold
  • umbilical cord shows segments of straightening
  • a lateral ventricle measures 10 mm with dangling choroid plexus.

No discrete fetal anomalies identified.

Has anyone been through this or similar? How did you stop panicking through the wait ?
I am just thinking the worse at the moment but mainly in shock as just did it expect this.

:(

So sorry you're going through this OP. I don't have direct experience with any of the above you've listed I'm afraid but can offer a hand hold and just wanted to bump this for you because I know how it feels to be anxious and waiting for further tests/ scans. I had my 20 week scan yesterday and was told everything looked fine but baby's head was measuring small. We've been referred to fetal medicine and I'm just awaiting their call to tell me next steps. I made the mistake of Googling possible outcomes and spent the whole day in tears yesterday.

I'm just trying to distract myself as much as possible while I wait and I've decided not to Google anymore. I hope that your next scan is more positive for you and you get the answers you need x

@Lottie917 thank you and sorry your also going through some worries. It's terrible and my mind is ping ponging from one extreme to the next.

google is definitely the devil and I have spent most the day searching but I am even struggling to find some things on there especially segments of straight cord which I am getting lack of results :(
midwife and my Dr weren't able to say much.

wishing the days away until next week

Sorry you're going through this. I also have no experience, but I have heard good things about ARC for advice.

Hi Op I’ve also been referred to fetal medicine after my 20 week scan this week too due to the nuchal fold measurements so offering a hand hold. It’s a horrible waiting game. Had issues at the 12 week scan so really wasn’t expecting this at the 20 week scan 😢

TTCJJB · 04/10/2023 22:25

Fingers crossed for a positive outcome for you all.

PositiveThoughts11 · 04/10/2023 22:53

@Bobbysmumma do you know what your measurement was lovely?

yes our 12 week scan was perfect and growth/ heart rate etc still is :(

I know these things happen but you just don't expect it at all.
praying for us both .

we were having a surprise but this is making me want to find out as I don't want to be the first time I know if it's a son or daughter to be if something bad happens. Coping mechanism I suppose x

@BlackCatsAreBrilliant thanks for sharing - unfortunately I'm not in the UK so can't call but I'll ask at our appointment if there's something similar if needed x

How did things go for you? 🤞

PositiveThoughts11 · 18/09/2024 11:44

@Taylor11 all was absolutely fine. We were sent for a specialist scan that had no concerns. Offered an amnio but we declined based on positive outlook.

Our little boy is 7 months and absolutely perfect!

Love to hear this! So happy for you. I had my 12 week scan yesterday and was told the baby’s nuchal fold is 4mm so have been referred to another specialist hospital for a further scan and possible further testing. I am sooo worried and don’t know what to think about it all.

PositiveThoughts11 · 18/09/2024 21:34

@Taylor11 sorry you are going through this - I remember being worried sick.
try to remain positive until the specialist looks properly as it's going to be alot more in-depth!
