Hi all
I was wondering if you could shed some light on what you think about this
I am currently pregnant and tested last week and clear blue said I am 2-3 weeks
I have suffered 2 miscarriages in the past so this pregnancy has caused a lot of anxiety
Went to a private consolidation who said he will scan me if my clear blue shows 3+.
I tested today (a week after my last clear blue) and it is still showing at 2-3 weeks!
My boobs don't feel as sore this morning (the soreness comes and goes anyways) and I haven't had any cramping for a couple of days
I am wondering if it is still worth booking a scan or waiting until I get 3+ on a clear blue test?

I know how nerve-wracking it is in the early stages of pregnancy after loss.

If they won't scan you til Clearblue shows 3+ then is there much point in booking the scan?

I had 2 consecutive first trimester miscarriages. In my 3rd pregnancy the local EPU offered me a reassurance scan at 7 weeks.

Do you think you could try to focus on keeping yourself well - sleep, moderate exercise, fresh air and daylight, citamins. Eat well, meditate/breathwork/yoga for a couple of weeks, and call EPU at 7 weeks?

My personal take was that it wouldn't reassure me to get scanned before 7 weeks (even then I didn't feel much relief til 12 weeks), so I tried to look after myself and distract myself.

Also - pregnancy symptoms do come and go, it's so early to read anything into that

I never got a 3+ on a Clearblue digital despite testing numerous times over a couple of weeks. Everything was definitely ok- the outcome is now a happy and healthy four year old.

I’d book the scan for reassurance though.

I would frankly be wary of any private scanning place that put any store by those godawful clearblue weeks tests anyway. Instead I'd be looking to get two HCG tests at a 48 hour interval, to get a real indication of what's happening with HCG levels. If there's nowhere near you that offers this privately, you can get finger-prick tests to do at home and post off for processing (although do be aware that it's not just a single drop off blood you need to get out, for those ones). Best of luck!

I still don’t have a 3+ on a clear blue. I’m meant to be 6+2 today and it’s causing me a lot of worry. I’m very surprised they they rely on these tests to offer a scan!

I’ve had two scans so far and the last one was Friday and showed a sack, yolk and fetal pole but no heartbeat yet.

My hCG was doubling when I got it checked but tbh these tests are still causing me great anxiety. I should be well in the range for a 3+ by now!

I have heard that the clear blue weeks indicator tests aren’t always accurate so I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad sign. I don’t know if there is much point in going for a scan before 7 weeks as you may not see a heartbeat anyway. I would try to stop testing until then.

Totally agree with this - I don't think anywhere reputable would be deciding whether or not to scan someone based on the result of a digital pregnancy test.

@HolliiiM Have you got details of your local early pregnancy unit (or similar - at my local hospital it's an emergency gynae unit) and can you self-refer to them? Different units will have different criteria but many will allow you to call up and self-refer if you've had previous losses.

They said if I get to 3 weeks then they would be able to see the pregnancy on the scan but anytime before then they wouldn't be able to see it as it would be too small
But technically I should be 3 weeks now
Although I have had no sickness and that's making me worry! X

I mean, yes, there's no point scanning you too early as there would be nothing to see; but those clearblue weeks tests are so unreliable (and consequently cause people so much stress) that they're a poor measure of gestational age. What are your dates like based on LMP? Do you have any sense of when you ovulated?

Hey! From the looks of things it seems quite common not to get a 3+ but I agree it is hard not be concerned but atleast you're seeing your pregnancy progress through scans. Were they private scans? X

I reckon I ovulated on either the 9th,10th or 11th of September so my test would be right if it is showing at 2-3 weeks however I thought hcg levels progress rapidly throughout pregnancy which is why I am concerned it hasn't increased
I also have had no sickness or tiredness x

Clear blue tests are the devil! I never showed 3+ weeks and it cause me so much anxiety but everything progressed as it should.

I'm not sure if anything would show on a scan at this point? So may be worth waiting a couple of weeks as hard as that is x

Persipan · 01/10/2023 10:34

Right, so that puts you at about 5 weeks. Which is a bit too early to see anything useful on a scan, so I doubt it would give you any real reassurance. Sorry, I know it's so hard just not knowing what's going on, but if you can hold out to 7 weeks or so, you'll get a lot more benefit from it.

LBNM19 · 01/10/2023 14:51

Just to add I finally got a 3+ today and that’s at 6 weeks and 2 days I’ve drove myself mad with these tests thinking there is something wrong!
