Hello Ladies,

I'll be 13 weeks on Friday. I've just been to the toilet and when wiping I noticed it was light pink...
Is this spotting normal? I guess I'm feeling ok otherwise but I'm just quite paranoid now.

Also can someone explain how it works with midwives? I only attend hospital appointments but I thought I'd be assigned a specific midwife with which I could plan the birth, call with concerns etc.. but I see a different person at each appointment.

Any other pregnancy tips are highly welcome too!

I had that happen on Sunday, I was 12+2. I ended up going to the EPU, and they identified the problem as a friable cervix.

You probably dont need to worry too much, I would have it investigated, so I would call your midwife (even if you dont have a specific one) or even 111 to ask for advice

I would speak to your GP about the bleeding so they can refer you to the early pregnancy unit, it’s probably nothing to worry about and just your cervix changing but it’s worth it for some reassurance.

regarding midwives you normally don’t see them until a bit later in your pregnancy. HVe you got numbers for a team or anyone you might be under? If you’re high risk it might be that they see you more at the hospital but you can request additional midwife appointments too x

Thank you for your reply , I'll keep an eye on it but will contact my GP first thing in the morning! I haven't actually been given any sort of contact for the midwives so I wasn't sure how it all works. Wishing you a safe and healthy pregnancy xx

Thank you! I did think of contacting 111 but I reckon they'd send me to A&E and the last time I went (I didn't know I was pregnant) they told me as I'm an early pregnancy they couldn't do any scans etc so they advised me to return to their EPU the following morning when they'd open which was hours of waiting around pointlessly. I found it strange because I thought hospitals were all equipped for this especially with it being the UCLH hospital xx

From my experience:

Any blood or smelly or coloured vaginal discharge, contact EPU (directly if you can, referral via GP or midwives if necessary). They may advise you to come in for a booked scan or to monitor.

If you put a pad in it will help you to track how much /any change.

Look up your hospital Early pregnancy unit online to see how to contact (or get referred).

The spotting could be something or it could be nothing, since you're under 16 weeks it's best to contact GP or EPU directly if you are able (my local one doesn't take self-referrals).

With regards to the midwives, you should have had a booking in appointment where you go through your medical history and be offered screening? That is usually with your local community midwifery team. Where I am this is based on postcode, so "bluebell team" cover the east of the city, "fern team" the west etc. There's about 4 midwives in each team. So while we try and cover the same clinics to see the same women this isn't always possible. You should have a phone number on your notes/app for the day assessment unit/triage, this is who you contact for problems such as bleeding or headaches.

hi, I’m sorry you have had a scare and I hope everything is ok. I thought I would add to your post as experienced something like this this morning, it looked like very light pink tinges of blood, small specs. This happened earlier today and since going to the loo there has been nothing. I don’t know if my anxiety is making run to the toilet every 5 mins but I keep doing this and have a little bit of back ache, can’t work out if this is just the normal aches and pains or something more sinister.had my 12 week scan last week and all looked really good. I have had my results back to day for the syndromes and were 1 out of 5000, so looks promising although I may still have a harmony. I have had 6 miscarriages previously, so this is the furthest I have reached.
