Unica Clinic Prague - IVF

Hi all, very new on here so forgive me if this is in the wrong place!
Does anyone have any experience of using Unica Clinic in Prague for IVF as a UK resident? My husband and I are thinking of going with them.

My main questions are:

  1. Did you find them helpful in terms of logistics like sending hard copies of prescriptions/helping you plan your trip/scans etc
  2. Were they good communicators generally (language barriers aside)
  3. Which pharmacies work with them here, or where did you find good to get your medications?

Many thanks!

Hello, myself and my partner went to Prague for IVF and are uk residents. We consulted with a few clinics and Unica was one of them.

We didn’t end up choosing Unica as firstly they asked for a variety of tests before we could go ahead with our treatment (some I had never heard of) and one of my scans that I had done here, they wouldn’t accept as one specific measurement was missing from the actual scan (it was in the report just not on the actual scan photo) so they said I would have to wait another month.

The doctors are very thorough but the one that we had our consultation with couldn’t speak English so we had to use a translator (which was fine) but there was often times during the consultation where they were talking between themselves and were laughing etc. this was really off putting for me as I really needed to feel comfortable as I don’t really like going to the doctors etc. At point they hadn’t spoken to us for over ten minutes.

They did send protocol/prescriptions over as soon as we had the consultation but we never actually used them as we went with another clinic.

We went with Fertility Port and really can’t fault them. I am almost 24 weeks pregnant from our first cycle with them :)

Thanks so much. This is really helpful. I have looked at Fertility Port but knew someone who had an unfortunate experience so chose against them. It’s such a personal choice isn’t it! So happy everything worked out for you.

Could I pick your brain further as someone who’s done the whole process? Which pharmacy did you end up using for medication?
and how did you find the whole process of travelling when it’s so hard to 100% know when you’re going to be told to get to Prague and then not knowing for sure when the transfer Will be as it’s all so depending on how you react to the medication?
sorru if these seem super obvious - I’ve never even thought about IVF before so this is all new to us!

It really is a personal choice and I think you need to do as many consultations as you can and choose the one you feel most comfortable with.

This was our first ever cycle of IVF too and I found it so daunting trying to organise everything especially when I knew nothing really about how IVF worked etc.

We used Zen Pharmacy for almost everything. They’re not the cheapest but they do send the medication the next day in most cases so it was very easy and they accepted the electronic prescriptions as I didn’t have paper ones. many people like to use Asda but my local one wouldn’t accept the prescriptions and my GP wouldn’t give anything.

We originally thought we would have a fresh transfer but what I did was I timed my cycle using the contraceptive pill so I had some sort of idea of when we would be going over. As soon as my period started we booked to go over and originally stayed for 12 days. This would have been plenty of time to do the collection and fresh cycle but I had to have a freeze all. I was actually surprised at how little time you have to spend in the clinic and out of the 12 days I was probably in clinic 4 of those. And only for an hour at a time so there’s a lot of time to explore etc.

I did find it quite stressful planning everything but actually once we were there it was relaxing and easy.

Any other questions let me know :)

Thank you so much. It’s so refreshing to ‘speak’ to someone who’s also gone through it. We don’t have anyone in our lives who has been through IVF or any assisted conception and it’s quite lonely even at this early stage.

Zen Pharmacy is the one Unica seem to work with too so it’s good to know they are helpful.

could I ask what happened to result in needing to do a freeze all cycle? I’ve heard about this and when I asked Unica they just said they didn’t expect that to happen, but of course nobody knows 100% how you will respond to medication etc.

Im looking forward to seeing Prague. It seems daft to be over there so long if you’re only in the clinic for a few hours when all said and done but I’ve heard it’s a nice city!

We were in the same position, we had no one to talk to regarding IVF etc. I had no idea about long protocol or short protocol or anything really and I would read things and had no idea what anything meant and basically went in blind but the clinics are helpful and do help with dates/when to do scans/protocol to follow.

There is a Facebook page called ‘IVF Support Prague’ which I found really helpful and people are happy to answer questions you might have.

I overstimulated to the medication even though I was on a milder dose so had too many follicles and was at risk of OHSS so a freeze all was decided upon when I had a scan prior to egg collection. I was gutted at the time and upset we would have to go back again and have more time off work etc but in the long run it was safer and then the frozen transfer worked.

It was honestly like a holiday mixed in with a few clinic visits and they really do make you feel at ease. We used bolt taxis and they are with you instantly using the app and it’s all contactless. Lots of people like to use the trams but for me that was just more stress lol.

We actually went with a company called Praga Medica and they took our medical history and suggested clinics. They also help with hotels/airport transfers and didn’t actually cost anything to use.
