Stitches/sutures in pregnancy

Hi ladies,

Looking for some advice or support please to help ease my mind!

I'm 23 weeks pregnant and on Monday I bashed into a big pile of bricks in my garden and got quite a deep cut on my leg that I ended up going to walk in centre to get checked and they put 4 sutures in it for me which I need to go back to get taken out next week.

I didn't fall over at all or anything I kept my balance completely it was just a bash standing up but the cut was quite deep, as I say I got it stitched up right that evening.

I'm just worried that anything could have happened to the baby or the stitches (which are on my shin) can harm anything or having them taken out?

Will the baby be aware of what's happened? I'm worried about risk of infection too.

Need some reassurance please!

Thanks

The sutures won’t harm the baby at all. If you see the redness around the area growing or there is any oozing from the wound or you get a temperature and feel unwell in yourself, then speak to the GP as you may have an infection and need antibiotics. Taking the sutures out won’t do anything to the baby either so don’t worry.

Thank you for the response! 😊

I'm such an over-thinker and a worrier that is my issue!!

I was just worrying about the sutures being in my skin until they have to be taken out (next week) could cause harm or if any harm would have been posed when they used local anaesthetic to numb the area when they put them in?

I'm hoping I'm not open to infection as the cut has been closed very well and I went to have it sorted the same day but if I did manage to get an infection how could this harm the baby?

Thanks!
