Measuring 2 days behind week 6, IVF - experiences

Looking for IVF week 6 measurement and heartbeat stories. I recently had a 6-day euploid FET and my viability scan at 6+3 measured the embryo at 6+1. The heartbeat was good (over 120), but I'm very worried by the sizing, as I miscarried by last FET - the embryo stopped growing in the fifth week and measured small and low heartbeat till eventual miscarriage at 8 weeks. Our consultant says +/- 3 days size variance is normal at this stage, but my experience is that with IVF it needs to be bang on. I know implantation happened fast because I had my first positive test 3dpt. Any and any all experiences very welcome.

I don't have IVF experience (I did medicated cycles) but more then enough experience with early scans. The size of the baby this early is so small, fractions of millimeters makes a difference to the gestational age they give you. I've had two early scans on the same day at 6 weeks (based on my trigger injection) that measured me both ahead and behind, unfortunately ultrasound just isn't quite sensitive enough at this early stage to really tell the difference between 6+3 and 6+1 etc

What's more telling is the fetal heart rate as this is strongly linked to pregnancy prognosis. 120+ is a great hr and is linked to the best possible prognosis.

Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy, and congratulations!

We did a transfer of a 5 day embryo. I had a scan at 7 weeks exactly (my clinic wouldn't scan before that) and was measuring 2 days behind but with a strong heartbeat. The doctor wasn't concerned at all. By the time I was scanned at 12 weeks I was a couple of days ahead. I'm now 20 weeks and bang on 50th percentile.

I measured 2 days behind at that stage after FET. The measurements are so tiny at that stage that just the smallest difficulty/error in taking measurements can lead to it measuring behind. By the time I was 12 weeks I was measuring on track. I would be reassured with the HB being over 120 which is an excellent sign. Congrats OP 🙂

I had a scan due to bleeding a few weeks back and thought I was 7+4, but the sonographer told me I was just around 7. Today I've had my dating scan I have been told I'm 13 weeks, which would actually mean I was 8 weeks during that initial scan. I don't think early scans are very reliable.

I had a scan at 6+6 and it was also measuring 2 days behind. But the doctor even said that, depending on angle, it was only 1 day behind!
They were not worried at all!
Just had my 12 week scan and it is now measuring 2 days ahead, and they have adjusted my due date based on that!

It is not a thing, because, as PP has mentioned, we are talking fractions of milimiters making a difference in the gestational age!!

Thanks for all these positive words lovelies. I honestly can send only all the love to those that are on or have been on this rollercoaster IVF ride. It really is the mother of all head ducks. Whatever happens I'm most likely going to spend the next few weeks driving myself and everyone around me bonkers. I have another scan booked for next week due to the anxiety levels - I'll update the thread to share how it goes 🌞

Good luck!

Just an update that scan today showed embryo has grown normally up until today (now 11.1mm) and heartbeat has increased to 142. Keeping everything crossed for a positive outcome. Have another scan booked for next week.. Thank you all for sharing your stories, they've helped a lot.

My almost two year old DD was an IVF baby and she measured 6 days behind at my first ivf scan. The panic it caused me was unreal, but she's happy and healthy and here with me :)

Congratulations @Aceofcups82 glad to hear your follow up went well! Good luck for next week x

The anxiety really is off the charts. Listened to a great podcast episode with Sara Pascoe this weekend (Elizabeth Day’s How to Fail series), where she articulates the feeling so perfectly. Found the shared madness very comforting!

@Aceofcups82 excellent news 😊

Violetbinlid · 02/10/2023 13:12

@Aceofcups82 I remember the anxiety well, particularly those first few weeks. Just take each day at a time so for now just focus on today, the days soon turn into weeks and the weeks into months. Keep posting if it helps!

That’s great news. I was going to say mine wasn’t ivf, however I tested for ovulation so I know within a day when I ovulated. I had an early scan at 9 weeks which put me three days behind, then by the 13 week nhs scan I was actually 2 days ahead of my ovulation date. So it had increased by 5 days in that time. I have since had my baby and he actually came out bigger than expected for a baby at 35+0.
