Miscarriage or cyclogest spotting?

Rose1411 · 24/09/2023 14:59

Hi,

I'm 5w +5 pregnant at the moment. I have a toddler, but since December 2022 when we started to try again I have had 3 miscarriages. 2 of which were chemical, one was at 12 weeks after diagnosis of a large subchorionic haematoma at 6 weeks.

I am now under professor quenby's recurrent miscarriage clinic. Ive been using progesterone since i found out i was pregnant. Switched from rectal to vaginal a couple of days ago because it was irritating. I now have spotting since this morning. No other symptoms but i'm afraid it'll turn into another miscarriage.

I have a scan booked in with quenby's team on 3rd october which will be 7 weeks. I think my best bet is to wait until then to see if the pregnancy is viable or if it does turn into a miscarriage in the meantime.

For reassurance has anyone else experienced bleeding when on cyclogest?

Does anyone have any advice on best distraction tactics while i wait? It's all consuming...

Hey. I'm on Cyclogest but on it for short cervix. Not had any bleeding or pink spotting so far

I’m in a similar position to you and it’s a horrible wait. I was told that sometimes you can bleed on cyclogest if the pessary irritates the cervix. So you need to pop it up around the back of the cervix rather than up towards the opening. TMI but I always put a finger in first to see where my cervix is (mine can be up very high or down very low varying day by day) and then I know where to aim the pessary.

I was in cyclogest and had spotting. Always used rectally. Currently 40 weeks pregnant. Wishing you all the best!

That is really interesting @LittleRobins ! And i'm so sorry to hear you're in a similar position. Do you have a scan booked?

As for cyclogest I'd never thought about the angle. My cervix is really high and ive just been inserting it as far as i can, i did actually read earlier just to put it in an inch so maybe too far. Also do feel quite sore so something may not be agreeing with me. Anyway i can't cope with it so definitely going to go back to the back passage (yay!). I'm going to try and distract myself as much as possible for the next few days but it's so hard!

@Gymbelle that's really reassuring! Do you remember how far along you were when the spotting started and how long it lasted?

Congrats on the pregnancy im sure you can't wait to meet little one now 😁

Hiya I’m on utrogestan - so just a diff brand but I had brown discharge from weeks 8-11, they think it was my cervix being irritated by the pessaries. It stopped just before 12 weeks and I’m nearly 16 weeks now. Hope you’re ok, I know how it feels when the pessaries cause concerning symptoms, it’s not nice at all xx

I’m so sorry for all your losses @Rose1411 I suffered 5 in 2022 so used cyclogest and 150mg aspirin from positive test. I had brown and pink spotting from finding out and a big red bleed on the day period was due and day after. I changed to putting them in the ‘back way’ and the spotting stopped. I’m now 36 weeks. Maybe see if you can go back to using them that way? Wishing you all the best I know how tough the early weeks are x

Rose1411 · 24/09/2023 18:37

@J2023xx thanks for sharing. That's helpful to know, i can't believe it lasted 3 weeks! Must have been a real worry. I am starting to get mild abdominal cramping now so expecting the worst to be honest. Definitely a head wreck waiting to see what happens but distracting myself with some MAFS tonight 🤣

@Amyjones86 so sorry to hear you had losses too :( that bleeding so early must have been really scary but wow that's a huge turnaround!

Yeah the early weeks are so tough because there's nowhere really to turn to for an answer. I know i could ask for some hcg blood tests but to be honest by the time i've had those through the gp i may aswell wait for the scan next week...

Hi @Rose1411 , I'm 4 days behind you (5+1) and also take cyclogest 400mg twice a day vaginally. I always make sure to stay lying down at least half an hour before standing up in the morning.
I'm also with professor Quenby and have a scan booked on October 3rd when I'll be 6+3
Wishing you all the best for your scan mine is at 3pm and I've been experiencing cramping pains. I'll check back in if I start bleeding but none so far. I didn't even consider up the back passage as I have haemorrhoids and professor Quenby actually stated to use them vaginally

This is our 5th attempt
2x mmcs and 2x chemical
I really hope we both get our positive outcomes from the scans xxx

Pm me if you want to chat x
