Ridiculous comment from my Nan

I’m 15+3 today and bought some maternity jeans as my normal jeans are quite uncomfortable - usually a size 12.

My sister (24) popped round with my Nan (86) earlier today and I was telling sister how my jeans don’t really fit any more due to little bump. Nan pipes up from living room:

”Maybe if you are less fatty food you would still be able to fit into your jeans.” She is fully aware I’m pregnant and now I’m caught somewhere between amused and annoyed at her unsolicited comment 😂

What a daft and thoughtless thing to say. My mum constantly reminded me that she didn't need any maternity clothes, so was so teeny tiny 🙄

back in her day clothes wouldn’t have been so fitted and more dresses were worn so it’s likely she wasn’t having issues with tight clothing at that stage. That being said her comment was very rude and you have every right to tell her to wind her neck in.

I think pregnancy is a time to get used to people giving unsolicited advice and generally saying ridiculous things!

At my Aunts the other day I said i'd have to cut up the grapes for DS. She said "pfft, no one choked on grapes when you were little" walked out the room and shouted back "and no one was allergic to peanuts either"

I had to stifle a giggle. I love older people 'in my day' things.

Also I wore maternity jeans from about 2weeks pregnant because they are soooo comfy!

Oh, the gloves come off in the 80s! Any chance she was just trying to wind you up? My Gran was dreadful for stuff like that. I had stretch marks because my jeans were too tight, my cousin got a cold because she got her tongue pierced, my other cousin's kids were lovely and polite because of their nanny, not because his wife was a good mother etc etc. I think she was just rude to get attention most of the time.

If it makes you feel any better I turn into an absolute whale in pregnancy, but it all comes off again.
