Just wondering if anyone who has been through similar can shed some positive experiences. I’m feeling super negative about it at all the moment but I’m interested in seeing if this has the possibility to work out.
I’m 8 weeks + 4 days pregnant. I don’t have many early pregnancy symptoms and had a tiny bit of spotting so I mentioned this to my midwife and she referred me to the EPAU. I had a scan yesterday and they found two gestational sacs but of contrasting sizes, the biggest measuring about 6 weeks. They couldn’t detect the foetal pole in either so obviously haven’t confirmed viability. I’m currently in the 2 week waiting game window and will be rescanned in 2 weeks to see if they have grown anymore and if not obviously it won’t have worked out.

I had a private early scan with my DD, now 3, when I was 7 weeks pregnant and they found her straight away but measured her at around 6 weeks so I do have this in the back of my mind. If there are two babies, would this affect the rate of which they grow? I’m doubtful of the second smaller one getting any bigger but not sure if it would affect anything with it being there in the first place. I know I should have asked this yesterday but I’ve only thought about it now that my mind has been on overdrive. The doctor did say she’s seen twin pregnancies progress with similar ultrasounds at this stage but I’m really not seeing how this could be possible right now. My mam also was pregnant with twins but miscarried both so maybe we just aren’t destined to have them in our family. I’m hoping somebody could share some of their experiences, please, I’d be really grateful.

I was pregnant was triplets and had an early loss with one of them but all went well with the other two.

My experience with the one I lost unfortunately does sound like what you've been through - the spotting, the scan, etc - so sadly I think you're right to assume the smaller one probably won't make it. But I think there's good hope for the bigger one. Your mum was unlucky to miscarry two - it's not the case that losing one means you'll lose the other, and I think the fact that your DD initially measured behind also makes that less of a concern than it would be otherwise. Fingers crossed for you!

Thank you so much for your reply! So glad it worked out for two of yours but I’m sorry about the third ❤️. Will keep my fingers crossed x
