Dark brown bleeding at 7 weeks, it’s bad isn’t it?

I’ve just gone to the toilet and wiped and there’s a lot of brown discharge with dark brown bits and tiny clots. I’d actually say it’s like a period consistency than discharge. I’ve been having cramps the past couple of days but thought it was normal. I’ve just turned 7 weeks. I had a miscarriage last month so I’m worrying it’s happening again 😞

has anyone had similar and all be ok? Also would prefer some honesty so I can prepare myself for bad news.

It's bright red blood which is the most worrying. You may have had some implantation bleeding.

Is there an early pregnancy unit you can access for a scan?

Fingers crossed for you 🙏

I had brown discharge with dark brown clots around 10/11 weeks but it turned out I have a subchronic hematoma (not sure if spelling exactly), so it’s not always the case, especially if it’s brown blood as that’s means old blood. Could you get a private scan or a scan at your local EPU to check?

Hi @naggy095

Sorry you’re going through this, I know how worrying this must be. I had a similar experience around 6-7 weeks pregnant and thought it was miscarrying. I managed to get a private scan and they found a heartbeat and said I had a subchorionic hematoma (which continued to bleed until 13 weeks on and off). I thankfully went on to have a healthy pregnancy and baby.

I really hope that there will be a positive outcome for you too. I hope this gives you a little bit of reassurance that bleeding/spotting in pregnancy does not always end badly. If you have any questions and want to DM privately please do x

I had brown at 7.5. Went to the Early Pregnancy Unit and all was fine. I hope it'll be the same for you.

naggy095 · 18/09/2023 19:51

Thank you for the reassurances, I’ve referred myself to my EPU so they’ll get back to me tomorrow. I also woke up this morning not feeling nauseous when all weekend I was incredibly sick, vomiting all day both days. I really hope I have a good outcome

I had the same symptoms as you and it was not good news. Fingers crossed all is well for you Flowers

EstieGreenwood · 18/09/2023 20:50

No advice others haven’t already given, just hoping the best for you!!!

Overthebow · 18/09/2023 20:52

It could go either way, sorry you’re experiencing this. Hopefully EPU will get back to you and give you a scan so you know what’s going on.

Olika · 18/09/2023 21:10

With my mc the first sign I had was loosing nauseousness (felt like not pregnant) and I started bleeding about a week later. And bleeding was like periods with bits and bad pain. Let's hope it's better news with you. 🤞🏼

naggy095 · 19/09/2023 08:00

This morning the sickness is back I’ve been sick 3 times already 🤢 and the brown bleeding has stopped. Anyone that’s had this and then had a MC did the bleeding stop and then start again? I’m still getting lots of cramping 😞

Can you chase EPU?

naggy095 · 19/09/2023 11:55

@Olika I spoke to them this morning and they’ve said for me to be on bed rest until they can scan me on Friday and then to take paracetamol for the cramping if I need to. Hopefully everything is ok 🤞🏼

Let's hope for the best. 🤞🏼

CutiePatooties · 19/09/2023 12:00

I’m keeping everything crossed for you and sending hugs. Get plenty of rest and I sincerely hope the scan goes well on Friday.

Oh, that was a relief to read! I've got no experience or knowledge, but it sounds like a positive progress!

I've just got a comment on the paracetamol, I know here in the UK paracetamol is very broadly used, but be very careful during pregnancy and only use it if absolutely necessary.

Paracetamol use during pregnancy — a call for precautionary action - Nature Reviews Endocrinology

A growing body of research suggests that prenatal exposure to paracetamol (APAP) might alter development and increase the risk of some reproductive, urogenital and neurodevelopmental disorders. This Consensus Statement calls for precautionary action, i...

@Nina7 thank you for providing the information, I actually searched that up myself last week when I had a fever so I know to never take it unless I really need to 💕

Update, had my scan at EPU this morning and everything was ok, they saw a heartbeat 💕 so relieved. They couldn’t find a cause of the bleeding though so I’ll never know why it happened, it was quite a lot as well but I’m just happy everything’s ok

Thanks for updating- I had read but not posted before- good luck for the rest of your pregnancy

Dairywairy · 22/09/2023 13:14

Glad to see it was good news. I bled loads from 6-9 weeks and again at 16 weeks and they never found out why. I’m 21 weeks now fingers crossed everything is ok. Some people do just get bleeding.

Iammetoday · 22/09/2023 13:16
