Have been drinking before finding out I am pregnant

Hi,

I got a positive pregnancy result yesterday ❤I am so worried however - I had couple of pints day before and I have been drinking about 3-4 pints on weekends. I also went on a week long holiday in the middle of my cycle where we had quite a bit of wine. What should I do? Do you think I caused any damage? When would I find out if everything is okay?

Everything will be fine, the majority of people have a few drinks before they miss their period. Mid cycle you won’t have even really been pregnant yet. This is incredibly common and fine, congrats!

I think most of us were in the same situation. Don't worry about that, even when I mentioned it to the midwife, she said it was absolutely fine. The most important is that you stop now that you know.

Thanks both! Feel a bit better🙂

@sonta8 Like you I was on a holiday before I knew and had more alcohol than I usually would as I was trying to let my hair down to recover from my miscarriage. I can assure you that it won't cause any issue, it was far too early. Congrats on your pregnancy!

You'll be fine - mid cycle you aren't even pregnant, and it's very common. It's not as bad early on as the placenta isn't in place yet.

The first week or two of pregnancy the embryo isn't taking anything from you or your blood stream its just cells replicating themselves . It's still not a good idea to drink lots as it could cause a miscarriage if your body thinks it's very ill but you didn't have a miscarriage- it's 'all or nothing' at those early stages from what I've read.

Read expecting better book if you want more reassurance.

I was six weeks before I found out and I'd been downing long island ice teas on my holiday just a day or two before finding out. I asked my midwife who basically said at this point the placenta isn't passing anything so unless you're binge drinking every night you'll be fine and it's a super common issue. If it does effect you it will generally cause a miscarriage pretty quickly so relax.

Baby was born perfectly healthy

I think most people drink before they know they are pregnant. Also the baby is getting its nutrients from the yolk sac for the first bit until the placenta forms so nothing is being carried over to baby.

Don't worry. I had a heavy weekend with my husband and his sister and she jokingly said to me "You're not pregnant are you?" To which I laughed and said "Of course not"

I was. I found out a few days later. Around 6 weeks. Baby was fine.

Thanks everyone! Thanks for all your support. I would have lost my mind without it. Hopefully everything would be good ❤
