Fragmin injections and Thrombocytopenia

I've been injecting Fragmin from 28 weeks pregnant due to high BMI and being over 35 as a precautionary measure.

I had a blood test last week through my midwife which has shown a platelet count of 95,000 and that indicates thrombocytopenia. At my two previous blood tests my platelets have been normal.

I've been told to continue my injections until I see my consultant next week but I'm so worried about excessive bleeding in labour etc that I haven't injected for 2 days. I'm 37 weeks pregnant today.

I was told not to inject if I felt like I was getting contractions because of the 12 hour rule of administering Fragmin and not being able to have local anaesthesia.

I feel crampy pretty much all the time just lately so that's another reason I've stopped because I don't want to not be able to have an epidural if I feel like I need one.

Anyone have and experience or advice with this? I'm worried about blood clots obviously even though I've never had one before and I have no family history of them.

Thanks in advance Smile

Sorry you are going through this… I can’t help with advice on the thrombo but I am also injecting twice a day with a treatment dose of fragmin for an existing blood clot that has been found in my lung. I too have no family history but I just wanted to share that blood clots are real and scary and my advice would be not to skip the jabs. You can always ring triage for advice xxx
