Early pregnancy cramps

Hi everyone,
it’s my first time my pregnant and I’m worried about the cramps I have been getting, at times they have had me doubled over with her pain. I’m around 5 weeks pregnant and have been getting them daily for around a week. Some worse than others and often multiple times a day, along with dull ache/pain in my back.
Is this normal? Doe anyone have advice on how to manage the cramps. I have already been to the doctor but they weren’t much help on the issue just told me I have to wait and see what happens!
Thanks 💜

I’ve had a bit of cramping and sore stomachs but not bad enough to need to take paracetamol or be doubled over in pain.
Your body is making adjustments for your growing baby so some discomfort is natural but it really depends on the type of pain.
Have you contacted the early pregnancy unit? They most likely won’t scan until 6 weeks but could give you some advice.

I haven’t contacted the early pregnancy unit as was told there would be anything they could help with this early on. I am in contact with a midwife already so I might seek her advice next week and see if any early referral can be done to the EPU. The are less painful then they were and no spotting or bleeding so I’m hoping it’s all just normal and I’m worrying over nothing

Sadly the gp won’t do much if they think it’s pregnancy related and should have suggested contacting Epu.
Try contacting the midwife and see what they say, she might encourage you to self refer to Epu.
If you’re in a lot of pain and doubled over then Epu will support you and give you advice. A family member has bad pain at 5 weeks and was taken in so they could do blood tests and check her over.

I wish someone told me about pregnancy cramps! They can be really awful at times. At one point in this pregnancy the pains were worse than labour with my first 🙈 I think it's a good idea to contact your midwife to try and get a referral to EPU. it's still a little early but hopefully they will see you soon and give you reassurance. No blood is a good sign, but they might want to rule out ectopic which can cause severe pain (their concern with me).

Your body is doing lots of stretching, making room for little one 😊

I had extremely bad cramps for the first 2 weeks after I found out I was pregnant. I had to take paracetamol. I couldn’t sleep they were terrible. Also hurt when I needed a poo. But all is well so far and I am 17 weeks. I guess if it’s not accompanied by bleeding I would say it’s pretty normal but always speak to someone if your worried.

Early pregnancy cramps are normal but they shouldn't have you doubled over in pain, that's only ever happened to me during a miscarriage. Tho I hope that's not what it is for you as everyone is different! My epu wanted me in before 5 weeks due to mild cramping to check for ectopic, they will need to see you to make sure the pregnancy is in the right place even if they can't see much more than that right now x

In my second pregnancy I had terrible cramps, I thought the worst but it was all OK. I did get a refferal for early pregnancy unit to make sure it wasn't ectopic cos some of the pain I was getting was one sided. They did a scan at about 5/nearly 6 weeks and could see a sac etc and then scanned again when I was 7 weeks and everything was all good.

I had really intense cramps, like bad period pain cramps for at least the first 3 weeks. I’m now 14 weeks with my first baby so it really panicked me when it was happening but I went for 2 scans before my 12 week and everything was fine.

Hi, I have had similar cramping...I had them between weeks 4-5.5 and only niggles since then...the fact they were mild to quite painful for ~20 mins 2-3 times a day to not having them is making me unsettled. Did anyone else's cramps stop around 6 weeks?
