Hi, so I'm expecting my 4th baby and I'm 50/50 on having an elective c section after my last baby was born by forceps which was quite traumatising.

I would love to have a water birth but I know from past experience that 1, I won't cope with the pain and 2, with all 3 babies I've ended up being put on the drip to to make my contractions stronger and I'm terrified of the forceps again.

If I have a section I'll have a planned date and it will be nice and calm, but I'm worrying about the aftermath, the recovery and also how it'll affect breastfeeding, I desperately want to feed this baby myself and worry that if it's not a natural delivery, not going into labour myself my milk won't come in.

I'm only 17 weeks, so plenty of time to decide.

I had an emergency c section, little boy latched in recovery, and was exclusively breastfed and is still going!! He was my first, so doesn't stop your milk coming in necessarily!

mummy2freddybear · 13/09/2023 18:52

Thank you 😊 nice to know it didn't stop you feeding

With my 3 older children I had plenty of milk, I remember squirting my daughter in the face 🙈🤣

I had 4 home births but my aunt has just had an elective c section and 3 weeks on can still barely walk with the pains. We are all helping with baby and she wishes she never had it

Hi @mummy2freddybear
I had a c section and all was ok including recovery, i also breastfed baby too. Congratulations on your pregnancy! Xx

TomatoSandwiches · 13/09/2023 19:14

I've had 3 elective sections and had no problems with milk supply at all, recoveries were good, didn't even finish my pain relief I was sent home with.

That doesn't sound typical, I would suggest she sees the GP, she may well have an infection.

mummy2freddybear · 13/09/2023 19:34

@Ladyj84 this is what I'm worrying about, the aftermath, not being able to do things for myself though I know I've plenty of help with 3 teenagers and DP

I remember after my forceps it was quite painful it I could still potter around the house doing bits and get out for a walk

Thank you @Summer2424 that's reassuring to know.

Can I ask, did you get skin to skin straight away or did you have to wait till back on the ward. I don't want to miss out on the immediate skin to skin, it's sooo annoying!

Hi @mummy2freddybear
Even now when i think of the moment i had her i get emosh!
They got my baby girl out cleaned her up, wrapped her in a towel and hat, it was very cold in the room and put her on my cheast but i still had the hospital thing on, then as soon as i was cleaned up (which literally took minutes), they put her back on my cheast and i started breastfeeding her xx

Summer2424 · 13/09/2023 19:48

@mummy2freddybear
Lol @ annoying 😅

Summer2424 · 13/09/2023 19:49

So there was a little delay before i actually got her on my cheast hun and got skin to skin xx

mummy2freddybear · 13/09/2023 19:51

@Summer2424 awww ☺️ I was wondering about the emotions too, cause I'm scared I won't get that hit of them like with a vaginal delivery but I watch c sections on tv and I start filling up 🙈🤣

@Summer2424 I know my other half will be a sobbing mess, I've never know a man be so emotional 😂

I had an emg c section and my biggest worry about it was my milk not coming in. It did, baby latched straight away and had absolutely no issues. Milk came in bang on time xx

I had skin to skin but after she was checked out so like 1 min later. They said they were taking her to be weighed and I said no I want skin to skin now so they did

ThomasinaLivesHere · 14/09/2023 09:28

My milk supply came weeks later but I switched over to breastfeeding and it lasted until he was 2 when I chose to stop.
