In the last few days, my wife has been complaining of back pain, even though she is eight months pregnant. She had pain in her back from the 4th month of pregnancy but now it is getting worse. The doctor suggested resting and said it was normal, but I am a little concerned about her situation, I just want to know if this is normal for women to experience back pain during pregnancy at this stage.

It's normal, yes. She's carrying a lot of weight on the front and the back needs to carry that weight.

It could also be the start of labour as labour pains can present themselves in many places including the back, tops of legs, hips.

When is she next due to see her midwife?

Yes very normal, there’s a lot of weight now at the front and her posture will be different. Back ache is very common towards the end of pregnancy. Warm baths and back massage can help ease her discomfort.
