Stomach pulsing like a heartbeat

I am currently 13+6 days and for the last 3 days my belly has been, what I can describe as pulsing. Like there is a pulse in my tummy. When I am laying down you can really see it, but even when sitting up or standing you can sometimes see it moving.

I called my GP yesterday who referred me to the EPU. They done an assessment and quick scan and baby is all ok.

No bad symptoms like bleeding or pain so I am not worried for baby, but wondered if anyone else had this?

When I googled it says about abdominal aorta pumping more blood around the body so you can sometimes see the pulses in your tummy. Not sure you get this early at 13/14 weeks though….

I've had this when not even pregnant and laying down, it's pretty normal. There is a major artery there which is pumping blood, it's just become more noticeable to you/you're being more observant as you're pregnant x

@Ttcmumma Amazing! This has made me feel better haha, thank you 🙏🏼

The midwife / sonographer didn’t seem concerned yesterday. I definitely think you’re right that I’ve just become more observant now that I am pregnant!

Thank you xx

Glad to help! Don't worry I was freaked out the first time I noticed it too so being pregnant would have only heightened that panic for you! Try take it easy on yourself 🙂 x

I only noticed this in my second pregnancy but it also continued after baby was born. I think it was always there I just never noticed until I was pregnant. But yes totally normal and it’s your blood pumping around, nothing to do with baby. You’re likely only noticing it now as you are pregnant as we don’t usually spend much time staring at our belly

It's your aorta, main artery that you can see

I also have really similar. I'm 25 weeks so it's even more noticeable now. The midwife commented on it at my last appointment when she was listening to baby's heartbeat and said I had a blood vessel really close by. What with him being a wiggle bum and my blood vessel, I don't think we are the easiest.

I wouldn't worry about it, but if you speak your your midwife they should be able to help.
