Pullout method conception

So me and DH did the deed but he pulled out and now I've missed my period (I am irregular) and according the FLO app I should take a test in 4 days time but I caved in and took one exactly 4 days before what should be my period since it didn't come when FLO said it should and to my Suprise there appears a very faint line which I don't have to squint for but it's not massively obvious either.

Btw I used a first response.

Had this happened to anyone and should I trust first response? I was obviously ecstatic but also don't want to get my hopes up as I honestly would be shocked to get pregnant over pre-cum.

I could have written this myself earlier this year🤣 my periods are irregular, I felt like I was gonna come on for 3/4 days so did a test when nothing came and it was positive!

Congratulations on bubba, when are you due ? You've got me convinced I will be the same now hahah.

How far in did you test and what was your line like ?

Isn't the old joke...

"What do you call couples who use the 'pull out' method?"
"Parents"

I've used pull out with DP for 15 years. Pregnacy would have always been a ' happy accident ' but in the end we had to plan to conceive and make an effort to get pregnant. Got Pregnant on month 3 of trying so no fertility issues. So pull put worked for us for 15 yrs. I think it works for some ppl as long as away that you might get pregnant.

FirstMondayInMay · 12/09/2023 12:06

@rosepetall thank you! I’m due in December, took me about 12 weeks to actually believe it🤣

I thought I’d be due on, on the Saturday and tested on the Monday. I’ll try and add a picture of what the line was like

We conceived baby 2 and 3 from this ‘reliable’ method of contraception. Thankfully we did want a bigger family.
We both knew we were taking risks etc etc:

Edited

Aside from irregular periods, I also have PCOS and we also never used protection and it took a long time to have what we have but I think it's also all about timing and it could just be for me and many others it was just the right moment without knowing it was

I am already behaving like a pregnant woman 😂.

That test is very positive and mine was very very faint but there also. I took it apart so don't have it anymore but there was defo a pink line there even after opening.

I am also thinking first response are quite reliable so maybe I am pregnant

I hate these threads. When used perfectly the pull out method is actually pretty effective. Somewhere is the 90%. The problem arises when you look at typical use over perfect use where effectiveness drops massively.
And the evidence suggests that there is no sperm in pre-cum so you can't get pregnant from that.

So what do you consider in affective then with the method? I don't think it's got to do with how affective or in affective you are with it, it's purely luck and timing. Also sperm can be present if it's leaked down, how else have others got pregnant by this method.

I found out last week I was pregnant from the same method safe to say I was shocked 😲

CurlewKate · 12/09/2023 13:18

If you want to get pregnant why are you using any form of contraception?

I am not trying not to get pregnant and I don't use any contraception but it's weird to say it's just how the deed finished and I didn't know how else to name it lol and the best fit was pull out method. It was literally the ONLY time DH pulled out like that and then the mood was gone TMI I know but for the time it was happening I can see how it might be I am pregnant was just shocked to see such a faint line because I didn't think it could even happen with how the whole thing went down if that makes sense

It was a massive shock still is

whosaidtha · 12/09/2023 14:24

@rosepetall typical use is men not pulling out in time/at all. Some men have good control/sense some struggle. Sperm 'leaking down' is possible but not likely as it would be in extremely low quantities and would have to survive longer. Also the precum isn't expelled as forcibly.

dimsumfatsum · 12/09/2023 14:41

It worked for us for 5 years until we were ready for DC!

Justfoundoutthat · 12/09/2023 14:47

Efficiency of pull-out entirely depends on whether or not the man has sperm in his pre-cum. Worked for us for 4.5 years without getting pregnant when we were open to a pregnancy but not trying. Got pregnant without problems and quickly when actively trying.

I hear you. Tbh we also did the pull out method for years and nothing but I also think it's just down to timing of ovulation as well. However, there are people who have got pregnant from a method as such so it's not entirely impossible

Ttcmumma · 12/09/2023 20:59

For the people calling you stupid... I used pull out method for 5 years, not one pregnancy scare (and don't start on me because I've always wanted kids and would have been happy if it happened so was willing to take the risk!) Anyway, as soon as we stopped using pull out method I fell pregnant, 3 times now and pull out in-between pregnancies has always worked too 🤷🏼‍♀️ Im sure it doesn't work for everyone but people cannot be so certain to say it doesn't work lol
