8 weeks pregnant small clots

I’m 8 weeks pregnant and have experienced spotting throughout, just when I wipe. It’s worse after sex and after passing a BM. I paid for an early scan at 7 weeks because I was worried about the spotting but was told all was OK, strong heartbeat etc. This morning, I wiped and in amongst the red blood, I saw 3 small clots - smaller than the size of a pea. I’m not experiencing any pain. After the positive scan last week, I’m probably being irrationally paranoid…but I guess the sight of clots is something new and not something anyone likes to see when they are pregnant. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any explanations as to what causes clots? Just praying it’s not early signs of something more sinister. Thanks for reading.

I'd call either the epu tomorrow morning, or your GP for a referral to the EPU if you aren't able to book directly with them. They can organise a scan to hopefully reassure you.

I've bleed regularly throughout my pregnancy (currently 18+1) including on occasion little and some not so little clots. So far all was fine at my last scan which was at 17 weeks. So far the source of the bleeding and tissue has been unexplained even though I've had plenty of scans about it. It sounds like you might be a bleeder, some people just are, hopefully it's nothing sinister.

I also find sex massively triggered my bleeding so Dr advised to stop that which is unfortunate but you might want to consider the same until you can speak to a doctor about what might be the cause in your case.

Just wanted to provide an update in case anyone else is experiencing the same symptoms and concerned about regular spotting. I continued to spot most days, more heavy after sex and a BM. Had my 12 week scan and thankfully all is OK. My spotting seems to have stopped now as I’ve moved into 2nd trimester. So yes, looks like some women are just bleeders!
