What do we say to strangers or people in general who comment on pregnancy size?

Currently 6 months pregnant, I would say very averagely sized pregnancy bump I would like to think. Was very rudely told by a neighbour thismonring that I’m absolutely huge for 6 months and ‘hopefully I might stay the same until he comes now’.

so bloody rude!

I can tell you what I'd reply to your neighbour but it's mostly expletives.

Furryrug · 08/09/2023 15:28

'Fuck off' springs to mind 😁
Or a more polite ' really?'

BingoandBlueyForever · 08/09/2023 15:31

I think most people don’t actually know or remember what a full time bump looks like. They see 6month bumps on TV as full term bumps, but by the time you get to 9months, most women aren’t out and about as much as before, so they just don’t have no real reference point for bump size.

How annoying.

emmmms · 08/09/2023 15:35

I had this quite a lot during my pregnancy. I got told I was "quite big for 21 weeks" by someone I worked with. It's incredibly rude.
Just try to not let it affect you or especially make you worry about the size of your baby, my DD was born a perfectly average 7lb 11oz.

Sagittarius25 · 08/09/2023 15:55

I've had this throughout my pregnancy, bump has always been too big or too small for everyone else's liking. Honestly infuriating when you consider you wouldn't comment on a non-pregnant persons body so casually. At 32 weeks last week at work I was told I'd 'finally got a proper bump' by one person and that I'd be 'huge' by when I go off on mat leave at 36 weeks by another person. 🙄

Really annoying considering bump measurements have been normal, but I'm a slim build so my bump is guess what, all bump! 😂

I just fake laugh it off, try not to eye roll and swiftly end the convo and walk away.

‘You’re absolutely huge for 6 months’
’thanks, so are you.’
’…me? I’m not pregnant.’
’I know 🙂’

This genuinely crossed my mind at the time but she was a very slim middle aged lady who can’t of been any bigger than a size 8. I was hoping my silence as she continued with ‘eee I shouldn’t really say that should I’ whilst laughing told her all she needed to know.

I used to go with oh I didn't know you were a qualified midwife!

ES1986 · 08/09/2023 16:45

Maybe a polite ‘the midwife says I’m absolutely on track thanks’ or if she’s a bit older a more cutting ‘well I guess when you had kids women were smaller because of all the food rationing’.

Liveafr · 08/09/2023 17:58

"Why are we discussing my body?"

Spottypineapple · 08/09/2023 21:31

'likewise'

Or if people say, wow You've grown/got big I just say 'yeah that happens when You're growing a baby'

So rude! I rarely comment on bumps at all, much prefer to just tell the mum to be that she looks great and leave it at that.
