Uterine PI very high at 21 weeks

Hi,

Writing here for the first time! At my 20 weeks scans the sonographer could not find one kidney of the baby (very stressful!) so I got referred to meet a consultant at 21 weeks. The consultant was able to find the other kidney but in the pelvis (instead of where it should be). She said this happens and should not impact anything. The growth is all normal and nothing else to worry about.

Then she dropped the bomb that my Uterine PI on both sides is very high at 99.9%!! She said it puts me at high risk for PE and FGR and that I will have to be monitored at 28, 32 and 36 weeks. I wasnt given any aspirin because they said its too late to start aspirin now.

I did not understand the complications fully at the appointment, but reading everything later is giving me major anxiety and I am not sure how to process this. Can I ask them for a further consultation? Or any private hospital that can help me assess.

I have a low BMI, no history of previous pregnancies, or genetic issues, no hypertension or diabetes.

Hi @Maddy2011 - I know you posted this a while ago - but I have just joined mumsnet due to the same issue. I had my 20 week scan yesterday and had a high combined PI of over 2.5.
Are you able to provide any info on what happened in the follow up with your pregnancy?

Hi Sophie.

I had a PI at the same level and in the scan my baby was diagnosed with a pelvic kidney. So we had a scan every month to assess the growth of the baby. I had regular blood pressure checkup. Everything was completely fine. The PI was not checked again but the doctors said it was all fine as long as the baby grew fine.

I had an emergency C section and our baby girl came all fine at 39 weeks with 3.2kgs weight.

You can’t do much about it so my only advice would be to not take much stress and incorporate exercises in your routine (i did yoga every day). This is only an indicator to monitor things more closely and you should be all fine.
