Hospital vs Private Scan

Hello 👋

TW = Mentioned of miscarriage

I wondered if anyone has had an early private scan and a hospital scan (EPAU) close together and wondered if you saw a difference in what they reported.

I already had an early scan arranged privately and then got given an appt with EPAU at the hospital. Only a couple of days apart (I know that’s not recommended), the first one (private) said that they could see an embryo and possible HB and then EPAU said they could see what would be the start of an embryo but couldn’t certain.

I understand that maybe this could be a negative outcome for me, but I wondered if anyone had any similar experience with a positive outcome?

Personally I've never rated private scans.

I have had some where they weren't sure what they were seeing but the NHS was able to diagnose properly.

Sorry you are in limbo. How far along are you?

Thank you for your comment. I feel frustrated that I went tbh because instead of reassurance I’ve just gave myself more anxiety! According to my LMP I’m 9weeks however I believe I ovulated later so I think I’m actually much early than this. I don’t know for certain yet 🙈

I didn't have a positive outcome but....
In may I had bleeding at what should've been 12 weeks... I couldn't wait for epu so I went for a private scan, they said my sac was measuring 10w5d but no baby was in there. So then epu got me in the next day... They then said my sac was measuring 8w5d and there was a baby measuring 6w.... I'd had a missed miscarriage but just shows the difference in the private and NHS scanners x

Hi @HopefulMammyx hope you’re feeling okay.

I’ve never had a private scan but didn’t want to read and run. I’ve have had 3 NHS scans with my current pregnancy at 5 weeks+2, 7 weeks+3 and again yesterday at 9+5 weeks (although measured + 3) my latest scan I could see the heartbeat and even baby wriggling around! Scan picture is very baby like too. The previous ones showed sac, yolk and fetal pole (albeit was v small fetal pole at 5 weeks). Do you have any idea how far along you are if not quite 9 weeks? I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you ❤️

Thank you for your reply and I am so sorry for your loss. It’s interesting to hear other people also have different experiences with scanners etc. If I had known prior I would of just stuck with one but I was so eager to see anything.

Hi Thank you for your reply 😊 I’m so pleased to hear that you saw a lovely HB yesterday! Can I ask, did you see a Hb also at the 7 week scan or only your 9w one? I think i am roughly 6-7weeks. I have a scan on Sunday so I’m hoping to see some progression by then 🤞🏻
