Pregnancy after miscarriage in the UK

Hi everyone

I've got a 10 year old and a 6 yr old. I had 3 very early miscarriage consecutively when trying to ds2 (6 weeks 7 weeks 8 weeks). I was due to go for checks etc due to 3 miscarriages but then As I had my ds2, apparently the clock resets.

Contraception failed earlier this year and I fell pregnant. Wasn't planned and nearly aborted. Heard HB at 8 weeks but unfortunately at next scan it was gone :( had surgery to remove and then had complications for 3 months like retained product etc. I am now pregnant again... Do I need to do anything? I want to ask for an early scan but I don't even know who to go to for that or is I'm able to? Just wanted to hear experiences of others in the UK.

Thanks!

I had a missed miscarriage in May and fell pregnant in July again. At 7 weeks when I felt that my symptoms were going and panic happened, I called the midwife and they referred me to the EPU for a reassurance scan as they see how anxious I was. Obviously not all EPUs are the same but I can't fault mine for wanting to reassure me. They offered me an 8 week and 10 week scan.

Did you have the scans was everything ok? I'm in similar boat and a week away from 7 week scan 🥺

Thank you so much! I definitely want the reassurance. I will also ask too, thanks so much! Hope your scans went okay xx

@N400 what you get offered seems to vary so much from place to place. Recently new guidance was passed which means multiple miscarriages count wether or not you have a live birth in between. You can definitely speak to your EPU and also for an early scan, and cite the new guidance if they say no. They may also offer you progesterone (I've had 2 MMCs and epu has told me to go direct to them for a prescription if I get pregnant again).

I actually asked my GP for progesterone with that pregnancy that ended in missed miscarriage. I needed progesterone for my DS2 after the 3 other miscarriages. My GP refused. He said unless I have bleeding then he won't give it. I'll never know if that led to the loss :(

@N400 go direct to your EPU. There will be a consultant there. Explain that you had 3 losses then the only successful pregnancy was with progesterone. I'm sure they will help you. Unfortunately some GPs are worse than useless when it comes to pregnancy!

@SparkleFly 8 and 10 week scans were both ok even though symptoms were very hit and miss. I also got a doppler to listen to the heart at home from time to time. I had another scan yesterday at 11 weeks for the NIPT test and all was fine too. Every time I feel better though, there are videos on Youtube of women who had late miscarriages and then the anxiety starts again, reminding me that the road ahead is still very very long...

Oh gosh it's torture isn't it. You get to one milestone and then you're still waiting for it to go wrong. I'm so glad you're all good so far though. Don't watch YouTube! All the best for your 12 week scan ❤️❤️❤️
