Used internal canensten with applicator - worried

Hi everyone,

I’m 24 weeks pregnant and used the internal canensten and inserted with the applicator. I spoke to my local midwife unit a few weeks ago and was told the cream was fine to use. I’ve since read that you shouldn’t use the applicator. I called my midwife unit again this morning for reassurance and to check what I should do in the future. I spoke to a different midwife who didn’t say much about the applicator but said there are different opinions on the internal cream (although NHS website says internal is fine during pregnancy) and to check with a GP or pharmacist before using again in the future but it should be fine if there is no bleeding and I can feel movement. I wasn’t worried about using the internal cream but now worried about that and the applicator!

I am a worrier with 2 previous miscarriages so I know the chances are it will be fine! Does anyone else have any experience?

I've used it it pregnancies with no issue. I think everything is fine apart from the pill version, don't take that when pregnant. Also I think they only say about the applicator so you don't risk going in quite far and disturbing the cervix etc.

This is safe in pregnancy. I'm a GP and prescribe it for pregnant patients. I have also used it myself during this pregnancy. Please don't worry. For further reassurance, here is what the BNF says:

With vaginal use:
Pregnant women need a longer duration of treatment, usually about 7 days, to clear the infection. Oral antifungal treatment should be avoided during pregnancy.
