Hopefully this is the right place to post.
1st baby. Was trying for 4 1/2 years never thought it would happen. Struggled with anxiety and depression since I was a teenager.

Anyways does anyone else find that they feel anxious like the physical symptoms but don't know why? My chest is tight and I feel a sense of dread on and off. But I'm not actively thinking of anything to trigger it. Getting me down. Perinatal just say to take a diazepam but I really don't want to. How do you all cope? It's gradually getting worse.

Have you tried yoga & hypnobirthing?

Are you on the Due October thread? (Or do you fall into November?) https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/pregnancy/4859554-due-october-2023-thread-8?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

Anyway, there was a post in there a while back about anxiety, and how pregnancy can trick your mind into being more anxious due to physical symptoms. As your baby is squashing your lungs, you have difficulty breathing. Your brain doesn’t always get what is cause and what is effect, so associates this with panic and thinks it must be anxious about something.

Obviously being pregnant produces its own anxieties anyway. I also struggled to conceive - for about six years in total. Now even at the 31 week mark I can’t quite get my head around the fact it’s real. I’m going to a hypnobirthing webinar thing soon (link in the October thread someone posted) and if I can’t sleep in the night with my mind racing I try and distract myself with a funny podcast or something. It’s hard though.

Do you have a supportive partner you can talk to?

Thank you so much for your reply.
I'm due 8th November. And I know what you mean exactly. Until I have my healthy baby in my arms safe I can't see that he will be mine.
Yes my partner is so so supportive, I'm very lucky. I will check out the link above also.
It's like I have the physical symptoms as you said and then now that's sending me to anxious thoughts. And it comes on waves. Wishing you and baby all the best x x x

Hey!

I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression as long as I can remember too.
im almost 29 weeks, tried for 5 years, had 4 losses so it still feels extremely surreal.

I have also found my anxiety symptoms have got worse, especially heart palpitations & feeling like I’m struggling to breathe especially when I’m trying to get to sleep xx

I was very anxious with my 2nd. Also have a long history of it. I was referred instantly for CBT. I saw someone online within a week. She was extremely helpful. I actually enjoyed the last few weeks. I'd ask your gp about that.
