Anyone experienced similar? - 15 weeks & bleeding

So I know that there can be things like hormone changes/ extra blood flow, etc that make the cervix extra sensitive especially in 2nd trimester, and things like cervical erosion/ectropion and polyps which can also cause harmless bleeding.

Does what I've described below sound like any of those, for those that may have experienced similar? I'll try to keep it short:

I'm 15 weeks pregnant with baby #2.

Tuesday:
• Started spotting - tiniest bit - pinky tinged discharge and one teeny tiny bright red clot, no bigger than a pen dot probably - noticed it after wiping, no pain at all, had no more bleeding that day.
• Went to our local emergency department triage under advice of midwife. My blood type is rhesus negative, so I had to have an anti D injection.
• The Dr found baby's heartbeat on a doppler. He said he wouldn't do an internal exam as it was only a tiny bit of bleeding and it could aggravate further bleeding which we agreed we wanted to avoid.

Thursday:
• More pinky discharge and again a bit of bright red again with a teeny clot upon wiping only. No pain and again bleeding stopped after that one time going to the toilet.
• Had a scan booked in for that afternoon anyway. Consultant didn't seem concerned and scan showed baby was okay / nothing of concern. Told to monitor any further bleeding.

Saturday (today):
• Started with more pinky discharged. I've then had fresh red blood upon wiping a few times today - not loads, not even enough to reach my pad - it's been on wiping only. Just now had another tiny little clot pass and now bleeding seems to have stopped again.
• Again I've had no pain at all which I'm taking as a good sign.
• Tried to call maternity triage just for some advice but cannot get through and my usual midwife won't pick up any messages until after BH weekend.

Thank you if you've made it this far. I know no one on here can tell me for sure what it is. I guess I'm just looking for a bit of reassurance until I can speak with a midwife. I had two first trimester miscarriages before I had my son in 2021, so it's playing on my mind it might be happening again and starting to feel quite anxious.

Just to add, I've not done anything that I think could of aggravated my cervix i.e. had sex or done anything strenuous. And my placenta is posterior and high so not that either.

I would take yourself back into EPU. Sounds like an increase in blood/change in pain which needs looking at. This is literally why they exist - take yourself in x

Thanks for replying @Anotheranxiousone

Just wanting to update incase anyone comes across this thread in future.

I haven't had anymore spotting since last Sunday morning. My EPU was closed for bank holiday last weekend. Spoke to my midwife on Tuesday to ask what she'd advise given I'd already had a scan, etc at EPU. She said I can either wait and see, or go to A&E again and get referred for another scan at EPU for reassurance (I was in A&E waiting for 7 hours last time for this). I've got a toddler at home and limited childcare options so although I felt worried, it didn't seem like a feasible option to me given the bleeding stopped as quickly as it started everytime. But I agreed that if I had pain or heavy bleeding I would go back.

We had a private scan booked for today anyway to break up the wait between 12 & 20 weeks so my mw said maybe just wait for that one and see than go down the A&E route, unless I experience any further symptoms meanwhile.

We saw our little baby girl today 💕 all is okay thankfully and the sonographer couldn't see anything worrying on the scan after we explained our situation so no idea what caused it x

@Lottie917 great news!

I am having similar. Been spotting all the way through tbh but had a bigger bleed yesterday (16+1) I have a private scan today (Sunday - not in the uk - terrified) but also a midwife appointment Monday that was already scheduled so decided not to go to a+e was bleed stopped.

I am going to push hard for some extra checks of cervix etc even if baby shows ok today !

Lottie917 · 02/09/2023 19:58

@Mangotango39 it's so worrying isn't it! I hope your scan goes well, I have my fingers crossed for you, and absolutely if you feel it would ease your mind they should investigate further into the cause for you.

I was in two minds about it as I knew it could induce further bleeding which I wanted to avoid (if the cause was an irritated cervix or similar) but if the bleeding had carried on anyway I would of asked too.

I did have a bleed at a similar time when pregnant with my DS, however it was just a small bit of pinky discharge with him. At the time the midwife did tell me that sometimes it can happen due to hormones shifting and the placenta taking over. However having the bright red bleeding with small clots this time felt very different and like it might not be the same thing.

I had the same, ask for an LVS (low vaginal swab) and they let you self swab low in vagina. I had asymptotic thrush. Thrush treatment made it worse, but once the thrush was gone bleeding stopped!

@Mangotango39 how did your scan go? Hope everything is okay X

@Lottie917 private scan was perfect then hospital scan went well too as midwife sent me for an urgent one Monday as I showed pictures of my bleed .Measurements all perfect. Cervix looked long and closed and placenta in the right place. Mystery continues !!!

had spotting for few days after but nothing now for a few days. This is usually the pattern though!

how are you x

Lottie917 · 10/09/2023 09:45

@Mangotango39 I'm glad everything went well and it's all good. It's good they've done those checks and covered those bases.

All good here thank you. Had no spotting since the last time about two weeks ago. Heard baby's heartbeat on the doppler at my 16 week appt last week too which was lovely. All seems to be okay for now 😊 I've started feeling very slight movements so just waiting for those to get stronger and more obvious the next few weeks. I feel much more relaxed once I can feel baby moving regularly x

@Lottie917 so pleased for you! Such a relief isn't it!!!

I guess we may never know the reason hey!

I think I am getting the start of movements to but then I'm like hm is that just stretching haha so hard to tell when nothing to compare haha

we booked our 20 week scan 29th so just can't wait for that x
