What age clothes to buy up to

Hiya,
I’m currently pregnant with my first and since finding out the gender (little boy 💙) I can’t stop buying clothes! 😬
I have read a lot not to buy too many newborn clothes as they may not even need them and also that you are likely to be gifted a lot of the newborn and 0-3 months as well so I have limited myself to a few second hand bits and sale items.
I’m just wondering what age everyone bought up to before the baby was born? I know now it is super easy and convenient with supermarkets and everything but I am planning on buying pre loved where I can and so it can take a little longer to get full outfits etc. I have only bought a few items here and there when I see them but I don’t know if it’s just a complete waste.
I am telling myself it’s not a huge loss if baby never gets round to wearing some bits as I can donate or resell again and they won’t go to waste. 🤣

It's so hard to know how fast they will grown and therefore what season you will need for what age. For example my child was in 6-9 at 4 months old and all the stuff I got for that was winter stuff because he should have been 6 months in November. I ended up having to get more bits to allow him some cooler clothes to wear. I'd would try and just buy as you go as much as you can. I buy all pre loved too and find Facebook and vinted always have bundles which are easy to get hold of when needed.

I would say not much.
My first born was tiny and went into sizes way after suggested (eg went into 3-6m at 8m old) so anything "age appropriate" wouldn't have fit her at the time it was weather/season appropriate.
Other extreme, my second went straight into 0-3 and was in 3-6 by 4 weeks old. So again, not weather/season appropriate based on age.

I'd try not buy too much as people do tend to buy clothes as a new baby gift, but saying that, I bought so much for my first thinking it was cute and in reality it wasn't practical for lounging around the house most days or chilling at baby classes. If you're going to buy anything then I would go for things like bibs, vests and sleep suits as you will always need them. Oh and a good portable change mat! I didn't tend to dress my newborns in clothes, just sleep suits and they can end up needing changed multiple times a day so if you're going to indulge then do it with sleep suits and vests 😆You can get nice boutique sleepsuits like these https://peanutpie.co.uk/collections/sleepsuits for dressing up a bit more without them being uncomfortable.
