Hi,

I went for my 28 weeks midwife appointment today. Baby is measuring at 26 weeks. For my height and weight that puts baby on the 3rd centile. I'm going for growth scan tomorrow. This is my third pregnancy, my first son was 6.6lbs and second son was 7.11lbs. I'm really worried. Am I doing something wrong? Any advice? X

You're not doing anything wrong, try not to worry. My DD was measuring small but then I went for a growth scan and she was perfectly fine. She was born 7lbs 11oz. The belly measurements are really inaccurate as well.

As long as you're eating and drinking plenty there's not much more you can do - it's just the way your babies are made!

As above, the bump measurements are far off from exact science and until you get a growth scan (which although more precise is still not 100% accurate) I wouldn't worry at all. I had the same -measuring way smaller than I should have at 28 weeks and growth scan showed all is fine. Just tell yourself you have extra strong abs that are holding the baby inside you well (hence a smaller bump measurement) 😊

The bump measurement is literally just a tape measure stretched over your bump and the cm matches to the week (!) It's such a rough estimate. Try not to worry before tomorrow's scan.

Also, at the scan they can check for other stuff like if you have an average amount of amniotic fluid or other things like that so you can get some advice.

But also, someone has to be on the 3rd centile if that makes sense? That just means, say, in a class of 50 there'd be one or two shorter than them. It doesn't mean they're way way off the charts.

Growth scans are not completely accurate.. my baby was over a 1lb out. My baby was measuring small, but my bump was tiny and i had pre eclampsia so there were more signs then one scan so try not to worry. Even though she came out at 4lbs she had no issues whatsoever and very healthy just a little thing xx

Thank you for all your messages. Even though the midwife was measuring me a few weeks behind and on the 3rd centile when I went for my scan yesterday they said baby was growing perfectly and on the 50th centile so feeling a lot better about it x
