Dreading meal out with friends tonight

DH and I are going out for a meal in the next hr with some close family friends of his.

I am currently 9+2, don’t really want to share news just yet (we have had early scan and confirmed heartbeat, but want to wait until after 12 week scan/combined screening results, a lot of them are Catholic and would have opinions!).

We are going for a curry and I am feeling so so nauseous and bloated. Any tips on what I should eat/avoid to try and not make this worse?

Dry. So samosas, poppadums and say you had a big lunch.

Unless they’re used to you drinking a lot and / or you’re 18 - surely they won’t be too shocked if you just say “not in the mood for a drink tonight as been feeling like I’m coming down with a headache all day”

Rice and chicken or lamb tikka - grilled so dry.

Say you are feeling a bit funny tummy so rice and fizzy water for you.

Mummy08m · 19/08/2023 19:10

I'd go for mostly rice and something mild like a sag aloo.

motheroreily · 19/08/2023 19:11

I'd something dry like chicken tandoori.

What has them being Catholic got to do with it ?

Presumably because op would need to consider her options if the scans turn up anything seriously wrong?

Flipflipmania · 19/08/2023 19:14

I missed the Catholic bit

WTAF? How old are they? And you seriously socialise with people like this? You want your child around judgey people like this? Mind boggling

good luck op. If you hang around with people like this, you’re going to need it!

OP I had an omelette thevknce st an Indian restaurant. I went as it was someine birthday. The waiter was lovely about it. Any way u could opt for something like this saying ur stomach not great?

YukoandHiro · 19/08/2023 19:21

Yes rice and chapatti and maybe something really mild like saag paneer. Fizzy water and if anyone notices anything say you're just getting over a tummy bug, or really hungover (whichever they'd find more believable)

The mental thing is that I am a midwife working in abortion care. I just smile and say I work in sexual health to avoid the drama 😅

Honestly oyf you're dreading it and feeling nauseous I'm going to stick my head out and say it's okay not to go. Just tell them you e got a tummy bug and rearrange for a few weeks hence when you will (fingers crossed) feel better.

You have friends that would judge you and make their opinion known if you decide not to continue with your pregnancy following a scan that revealed something distressing?

Flipflipmania · 19/08/2023 20:21

I think your focus needs to be less on what you’re going to eat when with these

Flipflipmania · 19/08/2023 20:21

Judgemental nasty that’s friend and more about why the heck you are going out with them?!

mintich · 19/08/2023 20:22

I'm Catholic and wouldn't think that. Do you actually know that they would judge you or assuming because of their religion?

TheChosenTwo · 19/08/2023 20:24

Cancel if you really don’t want to go but if you want to play along and anyone does ask just say you slept off a migraine this afternoon so still feeling a little peaky.

avemariiiaa · 19/08/2023 20:55

The worst thing you can do when hiding a pregnancy is over explain for no reason.

Order whatever you feel like even if it's small.

Drink something fizzy that looks like it could be a spirit and mixer.

And say nothing.

If anyone asks if you are ok/says you don't seem yourself just say you are getting over a bug and haven't quite got your appetite back.

RiderofRohan · 20/08/2023 20:55

I'm 7 weeks and I've cancelled all my social engagements for the foreseeable future lol

thecatsthecats · 20/08/2023 21:07

At that stage, I arrived early, ordered something that looked like a real drink, and had it in hand when others arrived. Spin that out, then order the same drink as your husband. Put your drinks down near each other and make sure your husband keeps bringing the levels down, and take pretendy sips from "your" drink every so often.

Food - just order what you can bear to be near you, and only eat what you want to. Nobody will pay attention to you eating less and "only" having two drinks, so long as you don't mention it.
