Too much sugar in pregnancy. Should I worry?

Hi. I should be 22w+. I've always enjoyed sweets. Never had issues with blood sugar levels. Few weeks ago I tried to cut down and my blood sugar levels went close to the minimum normal levels. So I started again to have sweets.

Today I think I over did it and I am quite stressed. Had like 2 thirds of a Schweppes can (it was an exception, I very rarely do). Then a slept a few hours and when I woke up I was feeling quite low energy wise and had 2 ice-creams in a row. And now I'm feeling guilty about it. Could I have harmed the baby? Info on internet is soo confusing and restrictive. Really wondering if women manage to have such a clean diet as we are supposed to... sometimes appears so hard.

Try your best to eat well, but don't worry. It sounds like you were a bit desperate for calories. Are you eating 'proper' food as well?

@Thankyouthankyoujellybean thanks for replying.

I am eating ok most of the time. Hope everything is OK.

Honestly, what you ate sounds pretty tame compared with my diet, as long as there are other foods involved as well! I always joke that my first baby was made out of avocado and quinoa but my second baby was made of chocolate and crisps 😆

I find I have days that I am so zonked that it is impossible to eat healthy as I just want instant energy in the form of sugar...? I find it MUCH easier to eat healthy the days I'm at work as I bring a packed lunch and stick to what I bring... then at the weekends am definitely a bit more Liberal. But have been going through 3 bars of galaxy salted caramel a week... the big ones... I just figure I could be doing so much worse?

Please don't worry about this too much. 2 ice creams in a day will not harm your baby. Just try your best to eat a healthy balanced diet most days. And get a reasonable amount of exercise. Like 30 mins brisk walk etc.
You do not have to obsess over every single item you eat it's going to cause you massive stress which is not good for the baby either. It sounds like you are a reasonably healthy person who just has a sweet tooth. Your baby will be absolutely fine.

Oh Hun I ate way worse when pregnant with my son! I was abit oblivious back then and didn't change my diet besides the very very obvious do not eat stuff for pregnancy but as for cutting back on sugar and caffeine etc? Never did it. Son's 5 now! I am trying to behave better this pregnancy as I am more aware but I don't think you'll have done any harm. Especially if you feel your body needs abit of a sugar pick me up!

Thanks all. I do try to eat properly and have blood tests done regularly to check everything is ok. But sometimes doesn't work all that well. It's reassuring to know I'm not thr only one struggling. As I was feeling very guilty.

Best wishes to all of you and your babies.
