Diarrhoea / food poisoning

Hi all,

I’m 29 weeks pregnant. DH and I ate at the same place on Sunday and on Monday afternoon/evening both started to feel a bit off. No vomiting but a bit of diarrhoea, stomach cramps on first night - no other symptoms so we suspect it could be food poisoning.

I’ve had loose stools (as well as more solid ones) once or twice a day since Monday evening. I am staying hydrated and baby has been kicking away as usual so I have no big worries, but looking online it said I should speak to a doctor if loose stools persist over 48hrs. I know I should probably just call them anyway but our practice like many is always so busy and I feel Ok- just wanted to see if anyone else had this go on in pregnancy for longer than a few days and if all was fine?

thank you!

I had this early on for 4 or 5 days, I think (multiple times a day)! I spoke to a pharmacist who recommended rehydration sachets but they were so gross I just drank lots of water! It's probably completely fine but you could speak to a pharmacist if you don't want to speak to your surgery?

@LeopardLover ah that’s a great idea, thanks so much! I will speak to the pharmacist ☺️

I had food poisoning in my first pregnancy, lasted a couple of days. I called my midwife but she said as long as I could still feel baby moving and was keeping hydrated then it would be fine.

@Kam610 thank you so much, this is exactly the sort of reassurance I was hoping for :)

I had covid which followed with diarrhoea when I was 30 weeks pregnant with my last baby who is now 15 months old. I rang 111 at the time, and the gp said unless I was struggling to keep water down then I was okay. Just keep an eye or dehydration and generally feeling off. Make sure your still feeling baby and any worries, visit the hospital. Just drink as much water as you can x

@Louoby thanks so much for your reply, yes water and food all staying down and feeling baby move around so feel all is fine :)
