Hi I know this is probably a little silly but I just have anxiety during pregnancy. My work canteen was out of orange juice so two days in a row I've had a tropicana multivitam juice drink and today I've just realised each 300ml bottle contains 460mg of vitiam A. (I know orange juice isn't the best as its sugary ect but It was just a little treat as I usually work from home and ive cut out caffine).

I think recommended limits is 750mg per day but I am eating lots of fruits&veg too

I am 20 weeks+4 and just worried about this effecting my baby, my next midwife appointment isn't until 28th and it's quite difficult to get a hold of her at times so don't want to bother her unless necessary.

Please tell me I am worrying over nothing!

I wouldn't worry about it

You're worrying over nothing. Congratulations on your pregnancy 🙂

You’re meant to have vitamin a in pregnancy
from what you’ve described - natural vitamin a in fruit and veg is fine even if you’ve gone over a suggested limit

you’be acknowledged you’re anxious so work on that? Have a chat to your MW

I took a vitamin for a couple of weeks with vitamin A in the second or thir trimester (by mistake). My child is 2 now and totally fine!

Malificent1 · 17/08/2023 11:30

Please don’t worry about this, it is absolutely fine. But do chat to your mw about your anxiety, they’ll be able to help.

The vitamin A in orange juice is likely to be betacarotene which is a safe form to have in pregnancy. It's the animal based vitamin A that you should be avoiding in pregnancy (retinol)

Peony654 · 17/08/2023 11:31

i didn't even know there was a suggested Vitamin A limit. You'll be fine, but please do consider some support for your anxiety

By contrast, I went to a bottomless brunch to celebrate my engagement without realising I was 6 weeks pregnant, and had a healthy little boy!

Thanks all. I have discussed my anxiety with her and I will bring up again

My mum by her admission lived mainly on cigs & black coffee while pregnant with me. My birth weight was 4lbs.

I'm 60 and knock wood have never been sick other than colds & flu. Your baby will be fine.

As PP said, it's the retinol form of vit A that should be limited, but you don't even need to completely avoid it. The betacarotene version is essential to the baby's development.

It's worth remembering that we are given advice based on absolute best practice - it is best to completely avoid alcohol, have never smoked, take folic acid every day etc... but most people are not perfect. Some people will not be able to follow all advice and will still have happy, healthy babies.
