SGA Baby having already had ‘Average’ size babies

Hi all,

i put a thread on yesterday regarding isolated short femur lengths in 3rd trimester and touched on us having 2 average size babies already (7lbs 3 and 7lbs 8)

in this thread I want to explore if it’s possible to have an SGA baby after already one or two (what you would consider) average size babies? Does anyone have any experience of this? And was the SGA baby healthy other than being considered small? My partner and I are on the small scale but we don’t know if it’s usual to have an SGA baby after to relatively ‘normal’ size - basically we have no history of producing small babies

thanks

Hello did you get any responses? At my 28 week scan I’m measuring on 11th centile but my first baby was on 90th centile so makes no sense to me..how did it go in the end?

Not me but SIL was induced at 37 weeks with her second baby as he was measuring small on scans etc. DN2 was born perfectly healthy and 6lb. DN1 was 7lb at 40 weeks, so SIL felt like she possibly just doesn't make huge babies 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi @JosieK8 . I have concluded our experience in the thread below 👇

please feel free to have a read but in summary, our baby girl was born happy and healthy at 41+3 and weighed exactly 7lbs.

im not going to lie we went through hell for 2 weeks inbetween growth scans but ours turned out to be an inaccurate measurement. I believe this is quite common. Centiles can be all over the place as you’re dealing in literal mm’s. Doesn’t stop you from worrying of course but if I knew then what I know now I really wouldn't have been as concerned as I was.

And being honest, I wouldn’t be overly concerned about 11th centile at all, unless I’m mistaken that’s still considered normal size even if the scan is accurate (not SGA)- our measurement came in at about 7th but with the femurs on the 1st!

Hope this helps. Feel free to drop me a DM if you want anymore info - good luck 🙂
